'New Moon' EXCLUSIVE 'Ulalume' Clip: Bella's Birthday Turns Bloody
With the whirl of TV spots, trailers, screen shots and scenes that Summit Entertainmenthas been releasing to promote "New Moon"(released in three weeks!), it's surprising we haven't seen the entire movie already. But Summit is taking the smart approach and, instead of releasing an actual new scene, they instead release an extended segment of something shown in a trailer. It's smart because not only does it whet our appetite, but the viewer still knows they have something to look forward to when the movie hits theaters.
Tonight's Ulalume Festival clip (see it after the jump!) was no different, showing Bella's birthday party before she gets her infamous paper cut. It's the first time we've gotten a good look at the Cullens since the first teaser, which also showed clips from the birthday party. This MTV exclusive clip gave us the chance to actually hear some interplay between our favorite vampire family.
"Dating an older woman, huh?" Emmet joked to his brother, who replied with a smile and a laugh. Yes, "Twilight" fans, if you will recall, Bella turns 18 with this birthday, making her one "year" older than the eternally-17 Edward. With now two years of comraderie under their belts, we're excited to see how the chemistry developed in this second installment of "The Twilight Saga."
Despite Nikki Reed's claim that Rosalie is becoming more forgiving as the saga rolls on, her clipped line of "It's a necklace. Alice picked it out" when she hands Bella her birthday present implies that character development must come at the end of the movie.
Alice tells Edward and Bella to "Show me the love" and snaps a photo we all wish we could have hanging from our mirrors. We get some great Emmett and Bella interaction when he almost refers to her truck as a "piece of crap" after telling her he installed a new radio for her present and she interrupts him with, "Hey, don't hate the truck."
But Esme and Carlisle give Bella the kiss of death when they pass over their present for the birthday girl, because it's the one that gives her the paper cut which will cause her beloved Edward to leave her. Esme has a great line with "You've been looking kind of pale lately" (who wants a vampire to tell them they are looking pale?) before Bella cuts her finger.
This clip cuts out the shot of Jasper lunging at Bella that we saw in the first teaser. The scene ends with Edward giving Jasper a nervous-yet-stern stare that made us get chills. Guess we'll just have to watch both the teaser and this clip over and over until we get a complete grasp of the full scene. There are worse ways to spend Halloween, right?
