Taylor Swift and Ashley Greene Share Their MET Fashion Secrets
All that glitters isn't gold. Taylor Swift and Ashley Greene may have looked like a million bucks during last night's MET Gala, but it wasn't exactly easy to look that good. (See photos from the gala here.)
Both girls chatted to People about the struggle it took to look flawless in their priceless gowns. Greene, who wore a stunning custom Donna Karan gown, told the mag, “I had to do some strength training to wear it.”
As we all know, beauty is pain -- and it's no exception when you're an A-list star. According to People, Greene told reporters, “I saw it and was kind of like, ‘Anything is worth it to wear this dress.’”
Swift on the other hand, had to do a different kind of workout to get her gown to the gala. “I’m comfortable,” she said of her J. Mendel gown. “It’s a little difficult with the train. But I’ve experienced worse," she explained, adding, "The car ride over here was interesting. You have to lay down on the seat and take the train and crumple it up on your lap.”
We may not be travelling in chauffeured limos anytime soon but at least we'll have a good excuse for lying down in the back of a cab the next time we leave a party in the wee hours of the morning.

Get the Look: Kristen Stewart at the Met Gala
We're still sleuthing out the nitty-gritty details of Kristen Stewart's Met Gala beauty look, but here's the scoop so far. Clad in a Proenza Schouler dress, Kristen worked with her regular beauty team of hairstylist Adir Abergel and makeup artist Beau Nelson. Her sexy, feline-looking eyes were created with Cover Girl's Liquiline Blast eyeliner, Line Exact liquid liner in Very Black, a black eye shadow, and Lash Blast Fusion mascara — no color necessary.
For Kristen's textured updo, Fekkai stylist Abergel created volume by applying Fekkai Coiff Bouffant Lifting & Texturizing Spray Gel to Kristen's roots to add volume. Next, he used his hands, not a comb, while blow-drying her hair. With a ¾ inch styling iron, he created a natural wave and sprayed Fekkai Beach Waves to retain the curl. Then he let the hair fall into a rough middle part and pulled the hair back into a low chignon. After spraying hair to set it, he let a few pieces fall in front to highlight Kristen's face.

Intentionally Messy Updos
The perfectly done, sleek upsweeps from a couple of years ago have been totally replaced by highly textured and even messy updos. Kristen Stewart wore a classic take on the look with tons of loosely falling tendrils and an uneven center part, for a look that was easy to wear and a little romantic. Get Kristen Stewart's hairstyle tutorial.

Ashley Greene
Take a cue from Ashley Greene's makeup artist for the night, Matthew VanLeeuwen, and apply your eye makeup before anything else. This makes it easy to clean up eye shadow dust before you've spent time making the skin look perfect. VanLeeuwen did this with Ashley by applying Mark Face Xpert Flawless Touch Makeup and light concealer.

Old Hollywood glamour rules the Met Ball
Last night fashion and Hollywood collided at the 2001 Costume Institute Gala at The Metropolitan Opera honoring the late Lee Alexander Mc Queen. And while there is a lively (and ubiquitous) debate online as to who's dress ruled the day one thing is for sure it was old Hollywood glamour that was the night's hottest beauty trend. Some of our favorite looks included:

Hair:
Twilight Actress Ashley Greene's gorgeously shiny hair was both young and ethereal, almost supernatural in appearance. The soft side-sweep and done-but relaxed bun perfectly highlighted the actresses to die-for cheek bones and gorgeous Donna Karan dress. Celebrity stylist Ted Gibson, who created her coif explained the inspiration for the look:
“I always think the hair should go with the dress and this look was modern, young, chic and simple with her Donna Karan dress.”
How it was done: "Ted started using Hair Sheet Styling all over Ashley’s damp hair to give it volume and shine. He then used a flat brush and separated the hair into sections. Ted used a flatiron to create waves in the sections. He created a deep side part and twisted the hair onto itself for an updated chignon. He finished the look with Beautiful Hold Hairspray."
