Exclusive: Robert Pattinson Teaming Up With Twilight Producer On “A Couple Of Things”

We’ve been obsessed with finding out more about Robert Pattinson‘s screenwritingambitions, which he vaguely alluded to in an interview with Vanity Fair earlier this year. On last night’s Breaking Dawn black carpet, we made it our personal mission to find out more, and producer Wyck Godfrey spilled the beans. He told us that he is currently working “on a couple things” with Rob at the moment. “He has great creative instincts,” said Wyck. Awww! When we asked if they were developing one of Rob’s screenplays together, he replied, “It’s a book that he’s interested in.”
Aha! Rob told Vanity Fair that there was a Lillian Hellman story he was playing around with adapting. Could this be it? “I’m not telling you!” Wyck laughed as he dashed away. Hmmm, that sounds like a bit of a giveaway to us! We then asked Rob about his writing. “Yeah,” he said, “I’m doing a bit of that. I’m doing a bit of everything.”
Sounds like Wyck and Rob have some interesting things in the works. Fans, would like to see Rob’s written work come to life on the big screen? We sure would! And with Kristen Stewart looking to line up her next project, maybe there’s an opportunity for her to work with her boyfriend again. Hey, we can dream!

Rob Pattinson Says Snow White And The Huntsman Looks “Amazing”

The Breaking Dawn premiere black carpet was crazy, and it got especially nuts when the big stars came through. Time gets tight with the actors talking to press and fans, so often they group reporters together for interviews. “Two questions!” we were told as Rob Pattinson saddled up in front of us. A lady to the right of me jumped in first. “Rob, the fans! This is crazy, right?” she asked, which almost caused me to have a tantrum. The poor dude’s answered that question 987654321 times since 2008, why not throw us all a bone and ask something interesting? Ever the gentleman, Rob gave a very gracious answer, and then I pounced, asking him about Wyck Godfrey‘s admission that they were working together. You can see Rob’s answer above. I then asked another question because I’m feisty like that. “Have you seen the Snow White and the Huntsman trailer?” I shouted as he was whisked away. “Yeah,” he said with a serious, supportive smile. “It’s great. Amazing.”
An opinion with which we totally agree.

Rob & Kristen Were “Connected” During Sex Scene

Twilight producer Wyck Godfrey is one of our favorite guys to talk to on the red carpet. He’s friendly, approachable and always down to chat. In our interview with him at the Breaking Dawn premiere, Wyck told us he’s collaborating with Rob Pattinson on a “couple of things,” to which we replied: “YAY!” He also raved about Rob and girlfriend Kristen Stewart‘s work on-set while shooting that infamous Breaking Dawn sex scene everyone’s talking about.
“Rob and Kristen were so comfortable with each other,” said Wyck. “I’ve done a lot of sex scenes in movies and the two of them really handled it in such an intimate, creative way. They really connected.” Yep, the chemistry between the two stars was one of our favorite things about Breaking Dawn, and it totally comes across when their clothes are off (and on).

Wyck Godfrey Talks BREAKING DAWN PART 1 & PART 2 & More

Producer Wyck Godfrey slice
While at the big Los Angeles press junket for Summit Entertainment’s The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1, I got the opportunity to chat with Wyck Godfrey, producer of all the films in the very popular franchise. Even though they are still hard at work at putting the finishing touches on Part 2, he is now able to step back a bit and reflect on his involvement with the entire experience.
During this exclusive interview with Collider, Wyck Godfrey talked about the great moment of elation and happiness that he had when they finished shooting, what it’s been like to see the same dedicated fans supporting them throughout, what director Bill Condon brought to the franchise and the actors’ performances, the level of secrecy involved with keeping the design of Bella’s wedding dress a secret, that there is a longer honeymoon scene and a Volturi scene for the eventual DVD, the challenges in getting Bella and Edward’s child right, and how Bella being a vampire in Part 2 is going to blow people away. He also talked about his hit ABC television series Revenge, and the next feature films that he’s focusing on – the Biblical epic Goliath, starring Dwayne Johnson, and an adaptation of the Nicholas Sparks novel, Safe Haven.

Producer Wyck Godfrey Talks GOLIATH, ABC’s REVENGE, Nicholas Sparks Adaptation SAFE HAVEN; Reveals Taylor Lautner Passed on GOLIATH

While at the big Los Angeles press junket for Summit Entertainment’s The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1, Collider got the opportunity to chat with Wyck Godfrey, producer of all the films in the very popular franchise. While we will post what he had to say about the film closer to its November 18threlease, we did want to share what he had to say about what he’s focused on, now that the Twilightfilms are finished shooting.
With his attention currently focused on the ABC drama Revenge, his first foray into television, his company is also developing two movies that will go into production next year. The first is the Biblical epicGoliath, which will give the backstory of David’s pursuit of Goliath. They hope to have Dwayne Johnson in the Goliath role, but they have to cast the David role, as Taylor Lautner will no longer be a part of the project. The other film is hugely popular author Nicholas Sparks latest book, Safe Haven, which is about two people who feel like they’ve been damaged and hurt in love before, and yet can’t help but take that second chance, all with an added thriller and supernatural element to the story. Currently finishing that script, they hope to cast soon. Check out what he had to say after the jump:
Question: Now that filming has ended on the Twilight series, do you know what you’re going to be focusing on next?
WYCK GODFREY: Right now, we have a TV show on ABC called Revenge, which we’re having a blast working on. That’s taking up a ton of time, but we’re having a blast doing it. I’ve never done a television series, so my partner Marty [Bowen] and I are spending a lot of time on that. And, we have two movies next year. We have another Nicholas Sparks movie. We did Dear John, and we’re doing Safe Haven with Lasse Hallström again. And then, we’re doing a big Biblical epic film called Goliath, which is a big action retelling of David and Goliath, that Dwayne Johnson is hopefully going to be playing Goliath in. That will be a blast!
Wasn’t Taylor Lautner going to play David in that?
GODFREY: Taylor was going to star in it. I was this close, but ultimately I think he felt like, “Maybe I wanna do something else.” I don’t know exactly why he’s not doing it. But, my imagining is that he thought, “I’m going to stay contemporary, instead of going back to Biblical times.”
Since it’s a story that people are familiar with, what are you going to be doing with the David and Goliath story?
GODFREY: It’s interesting. You say that, but people don’t really think about who Goliath was, at all, where he came from, and why he was driven to do what he did and fight for the Philistines. The other side of it is that everyone thinks of King David, but nobody knows David when he was a lover of wine, women and song. As an 18-year-old, he was a little bit discontented, as many 18-year-olds, about the way the world is. He’s stuck being a shepherd for someone else’s sheep, and doesn’t know of the prophecy yet. There’s all of that stuff that humanizes them. We did a film called Nativity that we really love because we just tried to treat Mary and Joseph as real people. It was about, “What would a 15-year-old girl and an 18-year-old guy be going through, if this happened?” It’s the same thing with David & Goliath. The writers have written it as a relentless pursuit of Goliath. It’s almost like Terminator going after Sarah Connor. Literally, this guy will not stop until he kills him because they want to show that their God is greater than the Jewish God. I can’t remember, in movie history, anybody really doing the David and Goliath story justice.
What is it about Dwayne Johnson that makes him your Goliath?
GODFREY: For me, honestly, his physicality is unmatched. Our Goliath is going to be 7 ½ feet tall, so it’s nice to find an actor who’s almost there. He’s like 6 foot 5 and ripped. If you saw Fast Five, when you put him beside Vin Diesel, Vin looks like a midget. It’s incredible, how physically strong he is. What Dwayne is excited about is playing a dark character. He’s never really done the villain. Scott Derrickson, who’s directing it, has a whole design that he’s going to do with the scars and tattoos for someone who has battled his whole life, that will hopefully make it seem really terrifying. The hard part is making sure that he can be menacing.
Has the success of Revenge inspired you to take on more television?
GODFREY: We are, definitely. This was our first foray into television. One of the great things about the Twilight series and Dear John is that it’s really given us a platform, as a company, to try to really explore female-driven entertainment. A show like Revenge really came from us wanting to do a show like Dallasand Dynasty, set in the Hamptons, about the haves and the have nots. We pitched it to ABC and they were very supportive, and it just moved so quickly. All of a sudden, it was on the air. The pace and the speed with which television operates is really exhilarating. You get to tell a lot of stories, very quickly. It’s scary because sometimes you want to make sure the bar is high for the storytelling. Hopefully, we’re going to keep working with ABC on many, many more shows.
Nighttime soap operas used to be so popular, but they’d been gone for quite awhile before Revengecame on the air.
GODFREY: Yeah, people went to reality television, I think. The lazy way to do it is just to watch Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. To challenge people and bring them into fictional characters and stories has been fun, and I think there’s room to explore that.
And, Madeline Stowe is so fantastically devilish on the series.
GODFREY: She’s great. I was working at New Line when we made Blink with her, years and years ago. When we were casting Revenge, it was just that desire to get somebody that people would have that reaction of, “Oh, my god, I love her! Where has she been?” We feel like she’s really been fantastic.
Isn’t this Nicholas Sparks book (Safe Haven) different from his usual work?
GODFREY: It is. There’s a thriller element and a supernatural element. What we really responded to is that it’s a love story, but about people that are damaged and are on their second go-around. It plays a little bit older, but it’s just as powerful to meet two people who feel like they’ve been damaged and hurt in love before, and yet can’t help but take that second chance. And from her past, she’s got some baggage that’s following.
Has that been cast yet?
GODFREY: It hasn’t yet. We’re just finishing up the script. We actually brought back in Jamie Linden, who wrote and directed Ten Year for us, which just got picked up out of Toronto, and also wrote Dear John. So, he’s working with Lasse [Halleström] right now on the script, to tweak it before we take it out to actors.
Are you looking to cast recognizable actors in that, or are you also going to look at unknowns?
GODFREY: I’m sure we’ll find people that are recognizable. But, one of the great things about a lot of the Nicholas Sparks movies is that you get to discover people. Because she’ll be at least in her upper-20′s or early 30′s, it’s going to be somebody that we’ve all seen before.

Author Stephenie Meyer, Screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg and Producer Wyck Godfrey Talk THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN – PART 1

Summit Entertainment’s The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 release is mere days away, on November 18, and earlier today the studio held a large press junket here in Los Angeles.  While the reporters knew that screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg and producer Wyck Godfrey were going to be talking today, we were all surprised when Twilight author Stephenie Meyer showed up to also talk to the press.  If you’re not aware, Meyer hasn’t done a lot of press since the first film, so it was no surprise that most of the questions were aimed at her.
During the twenty or so minute press conference, Meyer’s was asked if she would continue writing books in the Twilight universe, the differences between the books and the films, the birth scene, the decision to make Breaking Dawn into two films, her reaction to seeing the finished film, and a lot more.  Hit the jump to watch the video.
Finally, after you’re done watching this interview, here’s video of the Robert Pattinson press conference for Breaking Dawn.
Here’s the questions that were asked followed by the video:
  • Will Meyer continue writing in the Twilight universe
  • why New Orleans for filming
  • Meyer’s talks about how she wished she could have used some of what was done in the movie in the books
  • Rosenberg on writing the scripts and the differences
  • Meyer’s talks about the music she listened to
  • Meyer’s on Kristen Stewart’s transformation into a mother
  • Sexual politics of thye books and movies
  • What was thei favorite moment they could see explored in the movie
  • Meyer’s thoughts on the birth scene
  • Meyer’s talks about the success of the franchise and the movies and have they changed her as a storyteller
  • When was the decision to make the film in 2 parts and why was Bride of Frankenstein used in the movie
  • Reaction to seeing the finished film for the first time
  • What do they do when they get writers block
  • Rosenberg on what she has learned from this process as a screenwriter

Wyck Godfrey talks 'Breaking Dawn ' with 'Syfy Magazine'

In the December issue of Syfy Magazine (hitting stores now, with The Walking Dead featured on the cover), Wyck Godfrey (producer on The Twilight Saga) talked a bit about how and fellow filmmakers decided upon hiring Bill Condon to direct The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2. Explaining first how each of the previous directors matched up with their respective projects, Godfrey explained why he thought the final two were a good match for Condon.
"With Breaking Dawn, it’s a journey into adulthood. It’s a very mature step for Edward and Bella, moving into marriage and sex for the first time, pregnancy, birth. All of that really speaks to finding a filmmaker who could help our young actors, who hadn’t gone through any of that stuff … go through that process. Bill’s work has always come from a place of maturity, I found … He’s always directed films about misunderstood outsiders. And I feel that Edward and Bella are misunderstood outsiders, in terms of what they want. And Condon’s work also has some visual scale to it. Dreamgirls showed that he could direct a movie that had a really beautiful visual style to it."
Godfrey also admitted that the Twilight fan community has been influential in more ways than one and re-iterated the point Bill Condon made at Comic-Con this summer, that fan blogs and opinions coming off of watching things from afar led to a few on-set changes during production.
"The first day of shooting in Brazil, Rob and Kristen's pictures got taken everywhere. And overwhelmingly the response was, 'Oh my gosh! His hair is too dark! His hair is black! What did they do? His hair is too black!' And it literally forced us to go in the next day and look at him and go, 'Did we go too dark with his hair? Should we lighten it a little bit?' And I think we ended up lightening it . . . Also, you've read all the blogs about the books by the time you're making the movies. So, in some way all that is subconsciously affecting your decisions as you're working on the adaptations of the scripts. I know that numerous times we'll be in a room talking about the script and someone will go, 'No, No! That's one fo the fans' favorite scenes! WE have to do that!'"

Wyck Godfrey On “Breaking Dawn” Pirate & MPAA Rating

HollywoodNews.com: Wyck Godfrey, producer of the Twilight movies presented his new TV show Revenge to the Television Critics Association. Afterwards, I pulled him to the side to ask about the latest on Breaking Dawn and landed an exclusive scoop.
Readers know that Bella’s birth scene will be difficult to show on screen, because of the graphic descriptions of vampire labor. Godfrey said that director Bill Condon has a solid cut of the scene that should land a PG-13 from the MPAA.
“I have seen numerous cuts,” Godfrey said. “I think that process is taking place right now. We don’t have any word yet on the rating but I think we’re going to be okay. We’re releasing it PG-13 and it’s incredibly powerful already. It definitely captures what the book captures.”
Breaking Dawn has been split into two parts in order to fit as much of the book as possible into the movies. Part one should not run any longer than Twilight, New Moon or Eclipse though.
“We’re very close to locking picture on part one,” Godfrey added. “It’s about what the other three are, about two hours. I haven’t seen an assembly for Part 2, so we’ll start to get into it in December.”
The piracy case has been big news for Summit, but Godfrey clarified that his job is to focus on finishing the film. However, he supports the studio’s effort to hold the pirate accountable.
“It’s very important for people to understand that when you hack into people’s private e-mails and private systems to steal material that is not yours, that you’re going to get punished. It’ll work itself out. What happens with this, the material already got out. There’s nothing we can do about that. I do think it’s about just sending a message that in this day and age, you can find that stuff out through your own computer systems and experts who can track that stuff.

Exclusive: Producer Wyck Godfrey Talks THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE, BREAKING DAWN, Other Projects, and the Eventual Ultimate TWILIGHT DVD/Blu-ray Box Set

With The Twilight Saga: Eclipse finally in theaters, it’s time to post my final interview and it’s with producer Wyck Godfrey.  As the producer of all the Twilight movies, Godfrey is in the unique position to be able to talk about the franchise in a way the actors and even the directors can’t. After all, while an actor might be able to talk about filming a certain scene or what it was like for them working with the director, Godfrey is the person who can explain why they chose to film a certain way or why they wanted a certain actor or director to be a part of the franchise.  To put it simply: producers are the ones with all the answers.
Anyway, during the interview Godfrey talks about making Eclipse and what fans can expect on the DVD/Blu-ray.  We also talked a lot about Breaking Dawn including how they’ll be filming it in Louisiana and Vancouver, how long does he expect the movies to be, how did they get Bill Condon to direct them, and a lot more on the next two films.  We also talked about the eventual ultimate DVD/Blu-ray box set for Twilight, his other projects with Channing Tatum and Amy Adams, and way more than I can put in this intro.  It’s a great interview so take a look:
Producer Wyck Godfrey
  • Didn’t we just talk…he talks about the crazy production schedule
  • Says he is very busy prepping Breaking Dawn.  Says they are shooting in Louisiana
  • 1:00 – What was the biggest hurdle to overcome on Eclipse
  • 1:45 – How involved is he in the IMAX release
  • 2:15 – How much talk was there to do Eclipse in 3D.  Says they are talking about it for Breaking Dawn.  How does he feel about post converted 3D?
  • 3:20 – How much got cut out of Eclipse that will be on the DVD/Blu-ray.  Says at least 3 scenes that were either cut or cut down
  • 4:00 – Has there been any talk about doing an ultra box set for all the Twilight movies on DVD/Blu-ray
  • 4:25 – Do they have anything that they’re saving for the big box set
  • 5:05 – Bill Condon talk.  How surprised was he that they got him for Breaking Dawn
  • 6:05 – Are they planning on changing stuff out of Breaking Dawn the book versus the movie
  • 7:20 – How long does he think each Breaking Dawn movie will be?  Will they both be 2 hr movies?
  • 8:02 – Says they are shooting Breaking Dawn in Vancouver and Louisiana
  • 8:25 – What else is he involved with?   Talks about his Wizard of Oz project at Warner Bros./New Line.  Says his film is a faithful adaptation of the book
  • 9:15 – With two competing projects happening does he think whichever one goes first will get made
  • 9:45 – Talks about a Channing Tatum 10 year High School reunion movie that he’s working on.  Also a Janice Joplin movie with Amy Adams directed by Fernando Meirelles
