Robert Pattinson's Pre-'Twilight' Audition Tape For 'How To Be': Check Out A Preview
When a 20-year-old Robert Pattinson auditioned for the role of Art, a struggling singer/songwriter, in the indie comedy"How to Be," he certainly had personal experience to bring to the character. Though the British actor had appeared in the "Harry Potter" franchise, he had not yet broken through to superstardom, as he would after being selected to become Edward Cullen in the "Twilight" franchise.
Thus the audition footage that accompanies the upcoming "How to Be" DVD — and which Access Hollywood posted a short clip of on Thursday — is a fascinating insight into the way RPattz's life used to be, as well as the process by which he creates a character.
The clip shows a scraggily-haired Rob in a t-shirt as he tries multiple characterizations of Art to nail some dialogue. He shifts from dejected and insecure to goofy and bemused, attempting to find the most suitable approach for a scene in which Art visits his childhood bedroom.
"I feel it's all wrong," he confesses at one point.
When he goes for a slapsticky entrance into the room, someone off screen quickly instructs, "OK, stop!"
Another scene shows Rob's nose stuffed with tissue to simulate how Art would deliver lines after getting beat up. In the movie, Art is suffering after a breakup and decides to move back in with his parents and hire a full-time self-help guru to help him work through the pain.
"How to Be" premiered on demand on IFC Festival Direct in April 29, a day after the release of the soundtrack, featuring three original tunes from Robert. The DVD, which includes the entire audition tape, is set for a November 17 release, strategically three days before the theatrical opening of"New Moon," the second of Pattinson's "Twilight" films.
Good news though: You'll be able to see the entire 8-minutes of Robert's audition right here on Hollywood Crush in the coming weeks before the DVD's release. So stay tuned!
