New Moon star Robert Pattinson wants to return to his music
ROBERT PATTINSON helped propel New Moon to record-breaking heights at the weekend but he says he is terrified of being overshadowed by the Twilight phenomenon and misses the simpler pleasures of his music.
An accomplished musician, the 23-year-old confessed he longs to return to playing the piano and guitar at open mic nights in pubs and clubs, something he used to do when work dried up before he was cast in the vampire romance series.
He said: "I want to do gigs again... I guess the only way to do gigs is you have to get an album to kind of silence everyone first - and then you can play as many gigs as you want
"I really miss it. I am really afraid of being overshadowed by [Twilight]. It does make you set your standards higher because you need to overshadow this massive thing... You've got to be winning Grammies and stuff before you do another open mic."
The star did sing two tracks on the first Twilight film. Never Think was co-written with Sam Bradley, and Let Me Sign was penned by Marcus Foster and Bobby Long.
Director Catherine Hardwicke had secretly added them into an early cut of the film and when Pattinson saw it, he happily gave his consent, saying that one song in particular felt like it was "supposed to be there."
The soundtrack for his indie comedy drama film How To Be - which was released on DVD in the UK on May 18 and in the USA on November 17 - features three original songs performed by Pattinson and written by composer Joe Hastings.
He has previously admitted: "Music is my back-up plan if acting fails."
