Merry Christmas Eve Birthday To 'Twilight' Author Stephenie Meyer!
If the name Stephenie Meyer is unfamiliar to you, then you've most likely been living under a rock for the past couple of years — or, perhaps, you've just been hiding in the dark, because sunlight makes your skin sparkle.
As the author behind the wildly popular"Twilight" novels, Stephenie is understandably enjoying some worldwide attention today on her 36th birthday. Not only has she penned some of the best-selling books of the decade, but her work has spawned an incredibly lucrative film franchise that brought Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner firmly into the public eye.
On top of that, the "Twilight" franchise could well be responsible for the current craze of supernatural romance stories. Vampires themselves are the typical target of such romanticized renditions, as seen by HBO's "True Blood" and The CW's "The Vampire Diaries," but other creatures — like werewolves — have gotten their fair share of sexualized attention too, and Stephenie's work on "Twilight" had a hand in that.
Of course, we're a long way from the end of the "Twilight" craze. While "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" proved itself as one of the single-most instantly lucrative films of all time, the third installment in the franchise is just around the corner with next summer's "Eclipse." Given the fact that the film's target audience will be out of school at that time, "Eclipse" is likely to do just that to the already record-breaking success of "New Moon."
Overall, it's been an excellent decade for Stephenie. Between publishing a smash-hit novel series and inspiring an even more successful film franchise — not to mention the fact that she had a comic book written about her this past year — the next decade is likely to be just as excellent for the beloved author.
xoxo
Carrie
