Trailer Reviews

Well I have to say The Runaways is one of the most highly anticipated films coming out.  There are so many reviews of the trailer and so far all are in love with it.

The Runaways Trailer: Kristen Stewart Sings

It’s raining trailers! First we got a look at Iron Man 2, and now here’s the not-quite-as-anticipated teaser clip for The Runaways, a rock biopic on Joan Jett’s first band, starring noted badasses Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning. It looks like wonderfully hackneyed myth-building — at one point someone goes “The Runaways have the most chance of any group I’ve seen to tear this world apart” — but that’s all right, ’cause everyone seems to be having the requisite amount of fun. Our first question: Should Stewart be singing? Those are her vocals on the new version of the Runaways’ “Cherry Bomb” that’s soundtracking the clip. Our second question: Is Stewart a movie star when vampires or werewolves aren’t involved? We’ll find out for sure when the movie comes out in March, but she certainly looks the part while throwing beer bottles through recording-studio windows and upending trash cans. (Fanning mostly looks confused.)

SIGISMONDI DEBUTS WITH THE RUNAWAYS

A lot of people are excited to see Kristen Stewart as Joan Jett in The Runaways. I am -- I think she's the real deal. But I'm even more interested in seeing the film because it's Floria Sigismondi's directing debut. Sigismondi is an artist, photographer and music video director whose well-known clips include videos for the White Stripes, Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails, David Bowie and many others. I think Jett, Cherie Curie et al are a great match for Floria's sharp eye and smart sensibility. More on this film in the days ahead, but, for now, the trailer.

'The Runaways' trailer: Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning rock it like Joan Jett, fangs-free

Alas, Kristen Stewart emerges from her ongoing lunar cycles to try her hand at a role that's not Bella Swan.
The trailer for "The Runaways," Cherie Currie's story of Joan Jett and the Runaways that had Stewart shaggy-haired for months, has finally hit the Internet.
In the clip, she and fellow "Twilight Saga" star Dakota Fanning (who costars as the Runaways' Currie) chronicle the rise of Jett and the band to rock stardom in the '70s. The clip sees sweat drenching, guitars strumming, cars peeling out of strip mall parking lots rebelliously — and that hair just keeps happening.

[For the record, 6:01 p.m., Dec. 17, 2009: An earlier version of this post incorrectly referred to "The Runaways" a Joan Jett biopic; it is a history of the band the Runaways, which included Jett, based on the book "Neon Angel" by fellow band member Currie. It incorrectly placed the movie in the '80s; it chronicles the Runaways in the late '70s. Thanks to commenter "me" for making sure we get it right.]
