One of the reasons why the studio isn't ready is because they still haven't made deals with Stewart, Pattinson and Lautner, according to The Hollywood Reporter. And since a fifth film wasn't part of their original contracts – not to mention that they're all certifiable movie stars now – in order to secure the trio, Summit will most likely have to dish out a pretty penny (I'd say upwards of $15-20 million for all three).
Realistically, though, Summit can more than afford to pay up, especially considering the kind of money they've already made off this franchise. Splitting the final film into two installments, as well as shooting in 3D, would also help double or maybe even triple their box office grosses. We've been told to expect a decision soon, perhaps even by the end of this month – especially if they want to shoot in the fall.
What do you think? Spend the extra money for the extra film, or try to fit everything into one?
