Heart-throb factor

Could today's heartthrobs compete with the great classics?  I personally think you can't beat some of the old movies like Gone With The Wind, but some do come close.  There are new one liners that will be forever known as great romantic lines that are said over and over again.  Everyone knows "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn" and "Heres looking at you kid".  Now in my opinion "You are my life now" or even from the Wedding Date " I think I'd miss you even if we never met" and "I'd rather fight with you than make love with anyone else" are great ones, but Im sure there are others to come or you may have some you think will be repeated for MANY years to come, please leave them in the comments for all of us.

Hollywood's modern leading men lack heart-throb factor

Could 'Twilight' hunk Robert Pattinson support Clark Gable's role in 'Gone With The Wind?' Click through for more comparisons of leading men past and present.

On the merry-go-round that is Hollywood, movie genres go up and down. Yesterday's hit is tomorrow's bomb. First a genre dies, and then it lurches back to life as a brain-eating zombie.
The Western is out, at least until it isn't; superheroes run hot and cold; horror is huge, but for how long? It wasn't so long ago that expensive sci-fi epics about blue aliens were considered the ultimate cinematic folly — and that was before anyone knew about the smug hippie politics. But who's laughing now?
Perhaps it's time for James Cameron to bring his Midas touch to the romantic comedy, a genre that spent much of the past decade on life support. Is there no one left who can write sparkling dialogue? Do all directors have the delicate touch of a frying pan to the head?
Perhaps the problem lies with us, the viewers. If we settle for Ding Dongs instead of flourless chocolate cake with a Valrhona ganache, what's to stop us from choking down a feeble love story with plastic substitutes standing in for the main parts?
Yes, we're talking about the recent crop of leading men, who couldn't woo their way out of a paper bag without a team of make-up artists and mind-numbing plot contrivances. If you don't believe that the aughts were full of zeros in more than one sense, ask yourself this: Was there any romantic comedy released in the past decade that wouldn't have been greatly improved if it had starred Cary Grant instead? Hmmm? Didn't think so.
It's not that there aren't good actors working today, or even decent ones with nuclear charisma. The problem is that many of those with the requisite charm, dash and ability to smolder on command prefer to work in genres where they are more likely to earn an Oscar nod than a rotten tomato. Once upon a time, you could count on Tom Hanks, but now he's too busy unraveling Vatican conspiracies in a mullet and tweed. Brad Pitt wants to be kooky and interesting. And George Clooney — he of thevelvet voice and twinkling eyes — is too busy with his buddies, or working behind the camera.
You know who starred in the most delightful romantic comedy in recent memory? Ricky Gervais. It's called "Ghost Town." Check it out — or stick to a diet of bland, emasculated, also-rans. Here's how they stack up, by category:
The Boy Man
Cuddly, funny, immature; can be a jerk if his freewheeling lifestyle is threatened
Examples: Seth Rogen, Vince Vaughn, Michael Cera, Jack Black, Paul Rudd, Ashton Kutcher, Adam Sandler
The Smarmy Salesman
White teeth, bright eyes, bronzer, highlights (dimple optional); often a lawyer; has difficulty with slippery concepts such as "truth" and "monogamy"
Examples: Bradley Cooper, Aaron Eckhart, Greg Kinnear, Matthew McConaughey, Jude Law
Vanilla Fro-Yo
Tall, muscular and nice, yet deeply forgettable once his shirt is on; the guy your mother likes; could just as easily build bookshelves on HGTV
Examples: Ben Affleck, Ryan Reynolds, Josh Duhamel
Pretty Babies

Great bone structure, artful hair, slender figures; would be just as pretty if they were girls
Examples: Zac Efron, Rob Pattinson, Hugh Dancy
The Blue-Collar Lunk
Masculine (by Hollywood standards); may wear flannel shirts and live in flyover country
Examples: Harry Connick Jr., Gerard Butler
The Hair Model
In a world of premature tonsures, this guy's follicular endowments are enough to make women swoon; who needs personality when you have hair gel?
Example: Patrick Dempsey
