It was pretty exciting when we found out last month that Amanda Seyfried was confirmed for the lead role in Catherine Hardwicke's "The Girl With The Red Riding Hood." It's Catherine's biggest project since "Twilight,", and it seems fitting that Amanda (considered one of the next big thing's in Hollywood alongside Kristen Stewart) would be cast as the lead.
Earlier this week, The Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision blog finally gave us the name of the man who will be starring opposite her.Shiloh Fernandez will play an orphaned woodcutter who will become the romantic interest of Amanda's character.
Turns out Shiloh isn't new to the Catherine Hardwicke circle. Heat Vision reports he had tested for the role of Edward Cullen in "Twilight," but as history now knows, the role ended up going to Robert Pattinson. Who knows, though; this could be Shiloh's big break. There will be a lot of attention on this gothic reimagining of the classic "Red Riding Hood" fairy tale, and there are plenty of comparisons that can be drawn between this film and "Twilight."
Don't be surprised if you don't recognize Shiloh immediately. He is best known for a small recurring role on "Jericho," as well as similarly sized roles on "United States of Tara" and "Gossip Girl."However, he did land a role as the younger brother of Ashley Greene's love interest in "Skateland,"which debuted at SXSW this year.
"The Girl With The Red Riding Hood" is still in the early days of production, and is slated for a 2012 release date.
