'Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus' To Be Adapted By Summit

Men and women think in different ways. It's a scientifically proven fact. And it's one of the many reasons romantic comedies are so much fun, and such a big money maker. Yes, it's starting to seem like they're all coming out of the Generic RomCom Production Machine From Hell (run by CEOs Katherine Heigl and Matthew McConaughey) but still, there's something about seeing men and woman go back and forth at each other's throats before falling madly in love that keeps us coming back for more.
Which is why we think it's a brilliant idea that yesterday Summit announced it acquired film and television rights to the "Men Are From Mars, Woman Are From Venus" franchise. Based on the book series written by John Gray, the franchise assesses relationship and marital problems that stem from gender differences. This is the perfect formula for an ensemble romcom, which we have already addressed our love for.

Variety spoke with Summit president of production, Eric Feig, who said, "'Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus' is not just the title of a book, or what we know will become an amazing film and TV franchise it is a pop cultural mainstay and comically, sadly, romantically, all too often still true these many years after first being published."
It hasn't been outright stated whether "Men Are From Mars" will end up as a comedy, but we will hope that it follows the "He's Just Not That Into You" route in terms of adapting self-help lit. Also, we're throwing our hat in the ring and suggesting this property becomes a film, because we can't see it lasting as a TV series past the first season. Unless it's on HBO. We would totally watch this if it was on HBO.
