Top Selling DVDs of 2009

1. 'Twilight'

Hannah Montana (No. 20 on our list) sold so many copies because every preteen in the country had to have one, but there are more teens and tweens than there are preteens, so 'Twilight' took home the gold medal for 2009. While it was nearly guaranteed that every teen would want to buy a copy, two full discs of special features made this vampire flick a runaway winner for hottest DVD of 2009.

Joe: The Rise of Cobra' and 'Star Trek,' all raking in wheelbarrows of cash at the box office. But the space age future is here and movieland has learned to change with the times. Quite often, a movie is greenlit not just because it's bankable at the box office, but because it has a future in the home entertainment market as well.

Since the VCR and Betamax kindled the home theater industry, the performance of movies in stores has played a huge part in how studios do business. Disney has an enormous line of cartoons that are designed specifically for the DVD market, because families with children tend to buy more DVDs than families without.
