Who Should Play He-Man in the New Movie?

Who Should Play He-Man in the New Movie?
WANTED: The most powerful man in the universe. Should be muscular. Blond hair a plus. Needs to be skilled in the Secrets of Grayskull and immune to evil forces of Skeletor. Long hours, good pay. Some near-nudity required.

That, at least, is how one might imagine the casting call for the role of He-Man in the upcoming Masters of the Universe movie, based on the successful Mattel toy line – launched in 1982 – and already the inspiration for the 1987 feature Masters of the Universe, which starred a muscular, blond and nearly naked Dolph Lundgren as Eternia's greatest warrior and Skeletor's archenemy.

The proposed 2011 version is to be directed by John Stevenson, who co-directed Kung-Fu Panda and whose credits also include the Shrek movies. But still up for grabs: the leading role of He-Man.

This is where you come in. Imagine yourself the casting director, in search of the ultimate action hero. From these four box-office-worthy hunks, whom would you pick to fill He-Man's furry briefs?

In alphabetical order:

Chris Evans, 28. With his striking good looks and buff body, the Human Torch of the Fantastic Four series could easily adapt to the demands of becoming He-Man. What might be a strike against him, however, is that he has already been tapped to play the Marvel Comics hero Captain America in the big-screen Captain America: The First Avenger, also set for release next year.

Kellan Lutz, 25. The North Dakota native sends pulses racing with his turn as Emmett Cullen in the Twilight series – to say nothing of his revealing Calvin Klein X underwear shots. A former Abercrombie & Fitch model, Lutz has already entered superhero terrain – as a modern-day Poseidon, the earth-shaking Greek God of the Sea, in the 2011 fantasy action drama Immortals.

Alexander Skarsgard, 33. This Stockholm native (and former anti-terrorist Swedish marine) is already a master of the universe: he directs. Last year he appeared in Lady Gaga's music video Paparazzi. But fans of HBO's True Blood know him best as Eric Northman, the vampire sheriff so sexy that hardly anyone can resist his fangs. Imagine what he can do wielding a sword.

Channing Tatum, 29. The Alabaman who kicked off his career as an exotic dancer exudes strong, silent sexiness, and made the far-fetched Dear John tolerable if only for his beach scenes. He also caused heads to turn on dry land in G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. The only thing possibly standing between him and Eternia: commitments for G.I. Joe 2 and The Eagle of the Ninth.
