Local woman Julia Jones gets big break in new Twilight movie

BOSTON (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - A local woman has made it big in Hollywood taking on a major role in the upcoming Twilight movie “The Eclipse.”

Julia Jones is on cloud nine after wrapping up production in Vancouver for the ever so popular twilight saga.

The 29-year-old grew up in Jamaica Plain, went to Boston Latin High School and performed in numerous plays at Wheelock Family Theatre.

And now she's hit it big time, cast as a werewolf in this installment of the popular teen vampire movie.

Her character name? Leah Clearwater, the only female werewolf in the pack

She said filming this movie in Vancouver was like summer camp: A bunch of down to earth and grounded 20-year-olds including Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart.

Kellen Lutz was the last Twilight star to visit Boston and the fans went wild after him, particularly teen girls who couldn't stop screaming and crying when the young Hollywood hunk made an appearance at the Natick Collection. Is Julia Jones ready to take on Twi-hards? You bet.

The Twilight Saga: The Eclipse is due in theaters June 30.

Jamaica Plain-bred actress Julia Jones was the guest of honor at a reception and Q&A at the Wheelock Family Theatre last night. Jones plays Leah Clearwater (the only female werewolf) in “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse,’’ the third installment of the movies based on Stephenie Meyer’s uber-popular teen vampire series. Not surprisingly, a number of tweens and teens came out to see Jones interviewed about her career by WGBH’s Jared Bowen. Jones was scheduled to have dinner at 28 Degrees after the event with auction winners. Before Jones arrived at the Wheelock benefit, she stopped by the Globe, where she did a chat with readers on Boston.com. Jones was quizzed about her Boston roots, and was also asked the question of all questions — is she Team Edward or Team Jacob? Not surprisingly, “werewolf’’ Jones pledged allegiance to her pal Taylor Lautner’s Team Jacob. “But it was a hard one to figure out for a while,’’ Jones wrote in the chat. “They’re both pretty dreamy :)’’ Jones told us she’ll be at the MTV Movie Awards next weekend. “Eclipse’’ comes out June 30.
