Chaske Spencer plays Sam Uley, the leader of the wolf pack, in the Twilight films New Moon and Eclipse, and he'll be back in character for Breaking Dawn once that starts filming later this year. And Spencer, a Native American who grew up on three different reservations, is using his popularity and the popularity of the Twilight franchise to help those in need. He understands the importance of helping those less fortunate in general, and helping Native Americans in particular. As such, Spencer's part of the 'Be the Shift' campaign.
"It's a platform so I can use that and I can bring things into an awareness because I'm just an actor," said Spencer in our exclusive interview. "So, for me, what I can do with a really hot franchise is turn the spotlight, so I started thinking about what I could do to help my people out. Instead of going around the world, what about our own back yard? Plus, I'm Native Americans and this is home and where I'm from."
The organization Spencer's working with helps create awareness for pressing issues affecting Native Americans and promotes "dignity, justice, unity, and accountability." Spencer's hosting a special event on Monday, June 14th, at the Industry Nightclub in Los Angeles, and the public can purchase tickets - as well as find out more information on the organization and its goals - by visiting BeTheShift.tv. If you can't make it to the event, Spencer's encouraging Twilight fans (and anyone else interested) to be a part of the mobile campaign by texting 66397.source
