Twilight stars fall for dingo pups

MEET Bella and Jacob, named in honour of the Twilight stars who fell in love with the four-week-old dingo pups during a secret visit to Featherdale Wildlife Park on May 29.

Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner were in town last week to promote The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, the third film in the popular vampire series which hits cinemas July 1.

The pair, who play Bella Swan and Jacob Black in the series, were ushered to the park's educational enclosure for a private display of snakes, crocodiles, koalas and baby dingoes.

Their security was so tight that not even Featherdale staff were allowed to take photos.

``We knew there were special guests coming but didn't find out who were until they arrived,'' Featherdale marketing manager Kellie Ames-McDermid told the Sun.

``We had some idea as we knew they were in town, but it was still a great surprise. Taylor has visited Featherdale before. We understand that it was Taylor who recommended coming here. There were teens here who saw them escorted through the park and they were going crazy.''

The four dingo pups were such a big hit with the stars that two have since been named after the movie characters.

``They absolutely loved them and I think Kristen wanted to take one home with her,'' Mrs Ames-McDermid said.

The pups will be old enough to be taken on walks around the park to mingle with visitors within the next fortnight.

They will remain at Featherdale for the next six weeks before they are relocated to other wildlife parks across Australia.

Celebrities who have been Featherdale guests in recent years include music stars Gwen Stefani, Smokey Robinson, Kelly Rowland and David Grohl, actor Robert De Niro and lawyer Erin Brokovich.

British comedian Julian Clary visited three weeks ago.

``He loved the koalas and happily posed for photos with them,'' Mrs Ames-McDermid said.

``You don't recognise him without his makeup.''
