The Eclipse stars speak to the after-school initiative

Twilight fever has hit the UK and FILMCLUB, the nationwide after-school initiative and experts in films for young people, were there to catch all the action.
14-year-old FILMCLUB junior reporter Kirajoined the UK press on the red carpet at the star-studded premiere of Twilight Saga: Eclipse, and spoke to stars of the film Nikki Reed (Rosalie), Kellan Lutz (Emmett) and new vampire bad boy Xavier Samuel (Riley).
Among the questions Kira asked them was:
What do you think makes Twilight so popular?
Nikki Reed – Firstly the books, but it’s also this unobtainable love, this powerful, blinding love.
Kellan Lutz - It’s the love story – the endless love story. Everyone falls in love but (the Twilight films) take this to the extreme in every way – it’s really unique.
Xavier Samuel – It’s largely due to the world that Stephanie Myers has created. It’s all about eternal love and the thought that the thing you love could kill you and I think those things are really intoxicating. Also people can put themselves in Bella’s shoes and I think that’s an amazing thing if you can identify with the lead character.
David Slade (Director) - I think it’s because it’s an unapologetic love story, and I think true love is a wonderful thing and does exist in the world. I also think that there are so few stories that take on the subject of true love which, and to like true love is culturally a very healthy thing. I also think that taking the idea of something as historically dangerous as a vampire and making it nice and loveable is something that is unique as well.
Twilight is huge for my generation, so what were you watching when you were my age? What films have inspired you?
Nikki Reed- I was watching Pearl Harbour, Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion and Romeo and Juliet with Leonardo DiCaprio – the list is endless.
Kellan Lutz- I grew up watching films, but I didn’t grow up wanting to be an actor I just fell into it. I was going to a school for Chemical Engineering in LA and got a call that pushed me in the right direction to act. I don’t see it (acting) as work, it’s a hobbie that I’m really passionate about. I love it. I love auditioning when most people think I’m crazy as that’s meant to be the hardest part – the most annoying part, but I love it, I love testing who I am.
FILMCLUB have released an special video from the premiere, featuring interviews with the cast members and the film's director David Slade, which you can watch in full right here.
