‘Chain Letter’ Not screened for critics

What is it? A maniac systematically murders teens when they refuse to send along his e-mail chain letter.
Why didn’t New Films International screen it for critics? A spokesman said that because the film is aimed at younger audiences the company had scheduled few advance showings. Plus, the decision to open this week in Kansas City was made too late to schedule screenings.
Why we’d see it: We’re big fans of leading lady Nikki Reed (“Thirteen,” “Lords of Dogtown,” the “Twilight” movies; also of co-stars Keith David and Brad Dourif.
Why we wouldn’t: Director Deon Taylor’s track record (“Nite Tales,” “Dead Tone”) doesn’t exactly inspire confidence.
