Breaking Dawn' Director Bill Condon: "It's Got More Special Effects Shots Than Avatar'

'Breaking Dawn' director Bill Condon made a whopper of a comparison over the weekend at the 'Breaking Dawn' panel discussion with Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner at the Official Twilight Convention in Los Angeles, CA when he compared the fourth film in the franchise to the highest-grossing films of all time.

"The big thing is, it's got more special effects shots than Avatar," he said. "Almost every shot is a special effects shot and I'd never done that before so for me it was like going to school on all that stuff and I loved it -- especially when we get into this stuff when it's really subtle, tiny little things that happened with Kristen as she gets sicker and sicker. To watch the way you can use it [special effects] to tell a story, it was a real revelation for me."

He's referring to the fact that as Bella continues to carry her vampire hybrid baby, the baby starts taking over her body, cracking her ribs and making her weaker and weaker.

It's unclear whether the 'Dreamgirls' director used 'Avatar' to make the point that 'Breaking Dawn' is a huge special effects film or if he literally meant that there are more special effects than the James Cameron movie. Seems unlikely, but it will definitely be exciting to see how fans react to the effects. We were at last week's press junket for the film where Kristen fielded quite a few questions over her weight loss in the movie, the only thing is, it never happened.

According to Kristen, because the fourth and fifth films were shot together, Kristen losing weight for the role would have required production to be shut down for months and the scenes to be shot in sequence. So the scenes Bill refers to where Kristen appears gaunt were all accomplished through special effects.
