Exclusive Interview: Peter Facinelli talks Carlisle, Breaking Dawn, Bill Condon, and more

Back in August, at the Cincinnati Twilight Convention, Angie and I had the opportunity to sit down for a chat with Mr. Peter Facinelli. We talked about tons of topics, including filming the wedding scene, how Carlisle has affected his real life, and director Bill Condon (about whom Peter had nothing but nice things to say). In addition, we chatted about Peter’s other projects such as Loosies, the White Bolger pic he’s working on, and his involvement with charity, specifically Alex’s Lemonade Stand. Check out the lengthy interview below!
~~
Team-Twilight:  Several of the cast members have said that the wedding scene marked the culmination of the series and was very emotional. Did you find it was that way for yourself?
Peter Facinelli: I think it was the last day of shooting for us for first unit. But I also had second unit for another two weeks. A lot of those cast members were done with the movie, and I still had another two weeks so it wasn’t as emotional for me. It was emotional in the sense that it was a wedding. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house except for the vampires, because we don’t have tear ducts.

13 Movie Dads We Wish Were Ours

Dads are good guys. They put together our complicated toys, they taught us to drive, and they took us camping. But we've always considered him to be a total dork, or the big bad guy who Mom would call on to deliver the harshest punishments.
We wanted a father who was more like ones in movies. Why didn't we have a dad who built a magical baseball field, was fabulously wealthy, and who greeted crises with jokes, hugs, or lethal force instead of groundings?
We know our dads were cool, always there for us, and making us better people. We love them dearly. But in honor of Father's Day, here are 13 movie dads we still find ourselves admiring for their humor, cuddliness, special talents, and in some cases, bank vaults full of money.

10. Carlisle Cullen (Peter Facinelli), 'The Twilight Saga' (2008-2012)

We wouldn't want Dracula as a dad, but Carlisle Cullen? Yes, please. His enhanced ability is compassion, for heaven's sake, and he has a penchant for adopting lost and lonely souls. Anyone you love, he'll love. (He may even offer to transform them.) His capacity for kindness means he won't spend the centuries lecturing you, reminding you of that one time you scratched his car. He'll probably just give you a big hug, and remind you that time washes everything away, and the material is immaterial. Oh, and he's loaded (Forbes estimates his fortune to be $34.5 billion). If you have to pick a dad to spend centuries with, Carlisle is the one to choose.

8. Bryan Mills (Liam Neeson), 'Taken' (2008)

Any dad would happily risk his life for his child. But if we're in trouble – serious trouble, spanning numerous borders, languages, and laws – we want a dad with a very particular set of skills. We want Bryan Mills, who can build torture devices out of common items, rig telephones with walkie-talkies, and find us no matter how far off the grid we've strayed. He's a distant dad, but great in a pinch, and at least conscientious enough to encourage your singing career, and introduce you to his famous clients.

You're the Best Dads Ever, Dads of 'Twilight'

I am not a father, nor do I even pretend to know how to be a good one. (It involves owning a briefcase and knowing how to throw a baseball back and forth, I believe?)
However, I do know "The Twilight Saga."So with Father's Day coming up this weekend, I'm paying tribute to the dads from the series.
But who is the best "Twilight" dad? (Besides all of them?) Allow me to lay out the facts.
Charlie Swan, Carlisle Cullen, Billy Black and (future screen daddy) Edward Cullen are the men under the microscope. While everyone has their own ideas on what makes the best father, I've done some in-depth research (thanks, Ask Jeeves!) and these are the qualities most will agree on:
They should be of high integrity, but never high on other things. They should be able to provide for their kids, meaning they need some cash money -- Benjamins, if you will. And a father needs to be responsible, offer guidance, and spend quality time with children. These are proven techniques that keep daughters (and sons) off the stripper pole. Let's break down how these four fellows have done so far:

Children

Charlie: Bella Swan, 24 (looks 18 for eternity)
Carlisle: Adopted vampires Edward, Jasper, Alice, Emmett and Rosalie
Billy: Jacob (21), twins Rebecca and Rachel (25)
Edward: Renesmee Cullen, 5 (in human-vampire hybrid years)

Relationship Status

Charlie: Divorced
Carlisle: Married 90 years
Billy: Widower
Edward: Newlywed

Career

Charlie: Police chief
Carlisle: Physician
Billy: Quileute council leader and disability
Edward: Student for over 90 years

Net Worth

Charlie: Earns between $35,605 to $49,640 a year
Carlisle: Forbes estimates $34.1 billion
Billy: Median income of Native American households is $35,343. That's a fair guess since he's essentially unemployed.
Edward: Billions in family money

Parenting Approach

Charlie: Hands-off. Only sees daughter on holidays until she's 17. Shows as much emotion as a vampire, so it makes sense that his daughter falls for one.
Carlisle: Permissive and lenient. Allows his adopted offspring to do anything short of murder and pays their bills well into adulthood.
Billy: Authoritative. Doesn't give Jacob many choices, only allowing him to be a wolf when he grows up.
Edward: Reads daughter's mind. She will never be able to get away with anything.

Quality Time

Charlie: Spends most of his time working and fishing, unless Bella makes dinner for him.
Carlisle: Despite being a busy doctor, finds time to play baseball, throw parties and fight evil vampires with his family.
Billy: Unemployed, he has all the time in the world to hang with Jacob.
Edward: Still a new parent, he makes time to take his daughter hunting, when he's not occupied with saving her life from Volturi.

Family Planning

Charlie: Started family on whim and wasn't active in raising daughter.
Carlisle: Randomly adopts children like he's Angelina Jolie in a third-world country.
Billy: Seemed to plan well, until his wife suddenly passed away.
Edward: Considered abortion and doesn't practice safe sex. To be fair, vampires have no bodily fluids, so how could he know?

Fatherly Advice

Charlie: "The right thing isn’t always real obvious. Sometimes the right thing for one person is the wrong thing for someone else. So… good luck figuring that out."
Carlisle: "Don’t get your family slaughtered for pride."
Billy: "What I meant to say was, don’t do what you’re doing."
Edward: "You’re awfully small to be so hugely irritating."

Pole Probability

Charlie: High. Being an absent and unresponsive father can give women "daddy issues" and create strippers (allegedly). If Bella hadn't fallen for a vampire, her life would look more like "Welcome to the Rileys."Carlisle: Medium. When you adopt grown children, it can be a grab bag of potential psych issues. Still, Carlisle is really rich, smart, loving and can beat up any pimp, drug dealer or strip club owner.
Billy: High. Not totally his fault since his wife died when his kids were young. Still, he's not close with his daughters and his son is constantly taking off his clothes in public for free.
Edward: Medium. When Jacob, a much older man, "imprints" on Renesmee, Eddie still allows his daughter to see him. Kind of creepy and sends the wrong message for healthy relationships. However, they're rich and she'll have a strong education, so she won't need the money for college.

And Now... Readers Weigh In On Favorites -- and I Comment on Their Comments

@SkylarLSpencer: "Carlisle Cullen, of course. Cuz if you accidentally kill someone, he helps you hide the body. Oh, and he's f*** hawt. [sic]" (I'm not sure why you'd want your dad to be hot.)
@tashpalo: "Charlie!!! For the way he lovingly puts up with Bella always running off without explanation." (She could be running off to join a cult, though. The Cullens seem a little culty if you don't know they're just merely vampires.)
@theMwagon: "CHARLIE CHARLIE CHARLIE. He's so sweet & earnest." (She's more excited about Charlie than he is about himself.)
@IAmYuliaBelka: "Edward! Hands down . . . lol." (I’m not sure if she's joking with the "LOL" at the end. But this is no laughing matter, IAmYuliaBelka. This is serious business.)

Immortal vampire, small town doctor and value investor said to be a huge fan of getrichslowly.org, a penny-pinching personal finance blog that extols the extraordinary power of compound interest. It's worked for Cullen: The fresh-faced 370-year-old undead monster amassed one of the largest fictional fortunes largely simply by banking a small amount of capital in 1670, and letting the interest accrue. more »

According to forbes.com, Carlisle is the richest fictional character

forbes.com writes:
image

FORKS, Wash. -- Those Goldman Sachs bankers taking home millions in bonuses could take a few lessons from the richest man in fiction, Dr. Carlisle Cullen. Unlike those bankers, Cullen has avoided populist ire by hiding his $34.1 billion personal fortune from charities, the I.R.S. and, until now, Forbes' intrepid imaginary billionaire hunters.

Top 31 Sexiest Movie Vampires

31. Twilight’s Alec
Played by: Cameron Bright
As evil Volturi vampire Alec – the little scamp - Cameron has the ability to block the senses of others, but it’s his steely glare and pouty lips that made the impression on us.
29.Twilight’s Victoria
Played by: Rachelle Lefevre and Bryce Dallas Howard
Oh-so ‘naughty but nice’ – just ask your man. Whether played by Rachelle or Bryce, redheaded Victoria made Twilight watchable for fellas everywhere.

27. Twilight’s DemetriPlayed by: Charlie Bewley
Newcomer Charlie made his film debut in New Moon as the very scary Demetri – but we’re looking forward to seeing a lot more of him as the saga continues. Those eyes, that voice…

25. Twilight’s Alice Cullen
Played by Ashley Greene
Playing Edward’s elfin sister Alice made Ashley a fully-fledged Hollywood star and bagged her a Jonas brother! Jealous? Us?

24. Twilight’s Carlisle Cullen
Played by: Peter Facinelli
With his piercing eyes, striking blonde locks and gentlemanly brogue, it’s no wonder the Cullen patriarch has made it into our Top 30. Team Carlisle tees, anyone?

22. Twilight’s Jasper Hale
Played by: Jackson Rathbone
The minute we heard Jasper utter “my apologies, mam” to his love, Alice in that irresistible Southern drawl, we were smitten. We GLAMOUR.COM girls have always been a sucker for an old-fashioned gent. They are so rare nowadays…

19. Twilight’s Rosalie Hale
Played by: Nikki Reed
She’s often described in Stephenie Meyer’s books as the most beautiful woman on the planet – so taking on the role of Rosalie is a pretty tall order. Of course, who better to portray the vamp vixen than exotic screen siren Nikki?

17. Twilight’s Caius
Played by: Jamie Campbell Bower
Evil Volturi vampire Caius gives Robert Pattinson a run for his money in the chiselled cheekbones stakes. The Brit boy’s dulcet tones and silken locks have even charmed Harry Potter’s flamed-haired female Weasley, Bonnie Wright.

10. Twilight Eclipse’s Riley BiersPlayed by: Xavier Samuel
When we saw Xavier’s penetrating stare and cheekbones in the opening sequence of Eclipse, we were almost, dare we say it, like “Edward who?”. Almost.

4. Twilight’s Emmett Cullen
Played by: Kellan Lutz
Edward’s beefy yet affectionate big bro Emmett caught our attention with his gentle mocking and impressive torso. And thanks to
those Calvin Klein ads, we’ve got to see a lot more of Kellan. Can you say HUNK?

1. Twilight’s Edward Cullen
Played by: Robert Pattinson
Twilight’s resident Sex God, Robert Pattinson has brought new meaning to the term ‘pale and interesting’. Like all vampires, Edward has a taste for blood, but that’s all too easy to forget when you look at his ripped torso and intense eyes. A thing of beauty…

Peter compares Dr. Carlisle to Dr. Coop

By Kim Palacios
HollywoodNews.com: The Twilight stars are talking and, as usual, USA TODAY’s Susan Wloszczyna has the inside scoop. In an article published this week, Wloszczyna had a chance to chat with Peter Facinelli about playing the Twilight Saga’s “preppy patriarch” Dr. Carlisle Cullen as well as the handsy Dr. Coop in the Showtime series “Nurse Jackie”.
“Eclipse is my favorite book in the [Twilight] series…” admitted Facinelli. “I like that the two opposing forces, vampires and werewolves, band together for the common good.” Leading the charge on the good vamps side in “Eclipse” is Facinelli’s character, who is expected to play more prominently than in the first two Twilight films.
Of his concurrent project, the Showtime series, “Nurse Jackie”, Facinelli also spoke of his quirky character. Dr. Coop’s defining attribute, a tick that makes him grab womens’ breasts when he is nervous, found Peter commenting on acting the part with his female co-stars who have been on the receiving end of his groping. “They are all very good sports. It is much more awkward for me. After multiple takes, I’m worried that they will feel sore the next day.”
When asked from which doctor he’d rather receive medical care, answered Facinelli “Carlisle, bar none. He would make you live forever.”

Carlisle Cullen Named Wealthiest Fictional Charact

Forget that boring Forbes 500 list, with its Walmarts, oil companies and lack of vampires. The better Forbes list was released this week, the one that not only includes vampires, but puts a bloodsucker squarely on top of the list.

In its annual ranking of the wealthiest fictional characters, Forbes calculated that Carlisle Cullen -- the father of the vampiric Cullen clan from the Twilight novels and movies -- is the most well-heeled character in the world with an estimated fortune of over $34 billion.

Forbes... explain yourself:
Immortal vampire and small-town doctor has quietly amassed a fortune over the centuries. In 1670 received generous handout from Italian friends; put savings in bank, reaped billions in compound interest. Made shrewd long-term investments in steel, gold, oil, thanks to prescience of daughter turned financial advisor Alice; saw recessions coming, invested early in Wal-Mart. Earned doctor's salary for 340 years without paying for groceries, health care expenses. Avoids sunshine and public displays of wealth but owns several valuable properties, including yacht, private island, collection of Renaissance art.
Everyone's favorite feathered billionaire Scrooge McDuck's $33.5 billion -- mostly in gold coins -- was enough to put him in the #2 slot, while Richie Rich continues to creep us out in the third position with $11.5 billion.

Tony "Iron Man" Stark is only at #4 with $8.8 billion, though that may change depending on how well his sequel does this summer. And good ol' Jed Clampett keeps sipping that Texas Tea to the tune of $7.2 billion and the final spot in the top five.

Here is the entire Forbes Fictional 15:

1. Carlisle Cullen (Twilight): $34.1 billion
2. Scrooge McDuck: $33.5 billion
3. Richie Rich: $11.5 billion
4. Tony Stark (Iron Man): $8.8 billion
5. Jed Clampett (Beverly Hillbillies): $7.2 billion
6. Adrian "Ozymandias" Veidt (Watchmen): $7 billion
7. Bruce Wayne (Batman): $6.5 billion
8. The Tooth Fairy (she's real): $3.9 billion
9. Thurston Howell, III (Gilligan's Island): $2.1 billion
10. Sir Tophamm Hatt (Thomas the Tank Engine): $2 billion
11. Artemis Fowl II : $1.9 billion
12. Montgomery C. Burns (The Simpsons): $1.3 billion
13. Chuck Bass (Gossip Girl): $1.1 billion
14. Jay Gatsby (The Great Gatsby): $1 billion
15. Lucille Bluth (Arrested Development): $950 million

Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart Photos: TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE Set

They are screencaps from the Eclipse Preview on the New Moon DVD.  But very nice quality.

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are featured in three more The Twilight Saga: Eclipse photos that have surfaced online since the DVD/Blu-ray release of The Twilight Saga: New Moon.
Personally, I can’t differentiate between these Eclipse images and the ones from New Moon. The characters look the same, they seem to be dressed the same way, and even the settings look the same. Perhaps that’s the way it’s supposed to be as Edward, Bella, and Jacob (Taylor Lautner) haven’t aged all that much from one movie (or book) to the next and they haven’t moved to some exotic locale, either.
Also, none of those images make Eclipse any darker than New Moon despite the fact that David Slade was the director of the latest Twilight Sagainstallment.

New Moon style pt 2

Yesterday we got a look into Bella and Edward's costumes, today it is time to reveal the Cullens and Jacob's style.

'New Moon' Style EXCLUSIVE! Your Ultimate Guide To The Costumes, Part 2: The Cullens & Jacob

Our trip down memory lane with "New Moon," costume designer Tish Monaghan continues today when we take a sartorial magnifying glass to the wardrobes of the Cullen family and boy wonder Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner). Don't miss yesterday's look at Edward's and Bella's costumes either!

THE ENRICHED CULLENS
We know those Cullens are basically perfect, but one modification was made to the family’s closet for "New Moon." "Chris wanted to stay away from them looking as pastel as they did in the first film," Tish explained. “He thought they stood out too much. So he wanted them more of the world, but set apart within the color palette — so, just in cool colors.” Here, Alice (Ashley Greene, left) wears a blue dress by Rebecca Taylor and Rosalie (Nikki Reed, right) wears an Eli Tahari design.

MODERN HISTORY
One part of Tish’s design aesthetic for “New Moon” was making sure characters dressed in clothes that suited their back-story. For instance, you will always see Jasper (Jackson Rathbone) in cowboy boots — at Jackson’s request. “Jackson’s from Texas and so is Jasper,” she noted. “He was a major in the civil war, so that’s the thing he always holds on to.” Here, Jasper (center) wears a John Varvatos sweater, a Hugo Boss shirt and J.Lindeberg jeans. Emmet (Kellan Lutz, far left) is in a custom made vest, Hugo Boss shirt, Diesel Jeans and flaunts a Cullen Crest cuff. Esme (Elizabeth Reaser) wears a pale purple dress from Club Monaco.
Get the look (Esme)"Two Way Crinkle Chiffon Runway Dress" by Rebecca Taylor ($228)

DADDY DEAREST
“Peter [Facinelli] himself likes to think of his character as inspired by Paul Newman or Robert Redford,” Tish noted. “So he’s always dressed casual, yet put together.” Here, after Bella's birthday turns bloody, Carlisle wears a Theory suit and a Paul Smith shirt. Bella wears a dress made by Tish, which has since been replicated by Hot Topic for $98.

ALICE IN WONDERLAND
“She’s like this pixie-ish character, whimsical and fashion conscious,” Tish said of Alice’s style. “She’s a girly girl, and wherever you can add details to her clothing it really helps cement her character — like when she’s in school I gave her the pretty neck scarf and the hand warmers and long sleeves. The blue jacket was from Zara.” On the right, in the scene when the Cullens vote on Bella’s vampire fate, Alice wears a blouse from Teenflo in Vancouver and J Brand Jeans.
Get the look (blue jacket) "Tullette Drawstring Jacket with Pockets" from Tulle ($27).

VIVA ITALIA!
Tish says her inspiration for Alice’s ensemble on her adventure to Italy with Bella was Audrey Hepburn. “I was thinking, how can we cover her up fashionably?” the costumer recalls. “I wanted to get her long gloves because I knew she was going to be driving in this Porsche, which initially we thought might be a convertible.” After finding the “perfect” coat (by Michael Kors), Tish decided on Theory pants, red leather gloves from the Italian fashion label Gala, a Banana Republic scarf and“Jackie O” Ray Ban sunglasses (which you catch a glimpse of when she first enters the Volturi lair).
Get the look (red gloves)Preston & York Ruched-Cuff Leather Gloves from Dillard's ($48).

JACKED UP JACOB
When the werewolf wasn’t shirtless, Tish says she outfitted him in Banana Republic and GAP t-shirts because “they fit really well and they had a little bit of stretch to them.” And if the site of Taylor’s bulging biceps had your hearts pumping, that was intentional. “We tailored his t-shirts so they showed off his muscles,” she explained. “We specifically made his shirts a little tighter, a little shorter and the sleeves a little bit too short, like he was growing out of them.”

A HIDDEN WOLF
That forest scene on Jacob’s tee (a graphic the “New Moon” costume department custom designed) was meant to be a tad literal, according to Tish. “The director said, ‘Why don’t you give him something that has a wolf on it?’” she remembered with a laugh. “It was as something that symbolized what was to come but didn’t hit the nail on the head. We tried not to make it so obvious but it did have a moon, a tree a very small image of a wolf.”
