Smudgy Plum Shadow

All eyes were on Kristen Stewart's eyes at the premiere of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1. The reason? Dramatic plum eye shadow courtesy of Avon Global Creative Color Director Jillian Dempsey. “Kristen and I decided we didn’t want the eye makeup to look too hard," Dempsey told us. She smudged liner and crème base and topped it with a diffuse wash of matte shadow, angling the makeup upwards at the edges for a slight cat-eye. The flat finish kept Stewart looking sultry and smooth through, “all of the flashing,” says Dempsey. The rest of the star's face lit-up in palette of nudes and neutrals letting those stunning lids take center stage.

Unstuffy Retro Waves

Old-school Hollywood hairstyles only work when they're soft and touchable (not stiff and crunchy.) Ashley Greene got it just right at the Avon Foundation Global Voices for Change Gala in New York City thanks to hair wiz Ted Gibson. Starting with damp hair, he smoothed a dollop of gel from mid-shaft down and dried with a medium round brush. After creating a deep side part, Gibosn crafted barrel curls with a curling iron, all twisting towards her face, not away. Next, while Greene’s head was upside down, he brushed through her hair from roots to ends, loosening too-perfect spirals. A final spritz of hairspray and voila: a vintage look with a modern twist.

Color-Matched Blush

We loved Nikki Reed’s warm coral glow at the Madrid premiere of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn. Finding the right blush to complement your shading is essential to your overall look. Start by assessing your undertones. If you have a golden or yellowy complexion, pinks and soft reds will brighten things up. If you’re naturally rosy or tend toward rosacea, stick with taupe or mocha hues, which minimize redness. Coral and peach will be most flattering on olive and darker skin tones—as Reed so effortlessly shows.

Face Time with Ashley Greene

I recently chatted with Ashley Greene at a photo shoot for Mark Cosmetics. (She’s worked with the brand since 2010.) The fourth installment in the “Twilight” series, “Breaking Dawn – Part 1,” just opened, and her next two movies are wrapped and ready to go. Fans, take note: she appears this Sunday on the TV show “Pan Am.” Greene was warm and easy to talk to, and we were able to touch on many topics in a short amount of time.

T.T.: You are on the go and I’m sure you have some long days. What are the essentials in your bag?

A.G.: Of course I always have my mark staples with me. They’re in my bag now! Make It Go Away Wipes Makeup Removing Wipes, Good Riddance Hook-Up Concealer, Light Bright Lighten and Depuff Eye Gel and Cheat Sheet Shine Blotters.

T.T.: When do you feel most beautiful?

A.G.: After a great workout. You feel cleansed, destressed and healthy. I feel most beautiful when that rush of endorphins hits. That is a glow that makeup cannot match!

T.T.: When do you feel most sexy?

A.G.: When I have a smoky eye, a tan and am wearing a great pair of high heels.

T.T.: Do you usually stick to one fragrance?

A.G.: I change it up, depending on my mood. I usually choose between mark Celebrate,White Vetiver or Sassy fragrances.

T.T.: Is there a beauty item you’ll splurge on?

A.G.: I will splurge on good skin care. Taking care of my skin is a priority. I’ll spend a lot on a really good brightening mask, which is crucial before a shoot or the red carpet.

T.T.: When you work hard and you’re superbusy, what keeps you grounded?

A.G.: My team. The people you surround yourself with on a daily basis. It’s your support system, and I have a good one.

T.T.: What does your perfect day off consist of?

A.G.: Coming from Florida, I’d have to say kicking back on the beach and listening to the ocean, with some good food and music.

T.T.: Beachy hair or straight?

A.G.: Straight!

T.T.: What products do you use to achieve straight hair?

A.G.: When I’m lucky enough to have Ted Gibson as my hairdresser, that helps! His line of hair products is awesome. I especially like the Hairsheet Styling Sheets, Beautiful Hold Hairspray and Tame It Shine Lotion — they work wonders.

T.T.: When you are not working, do you wear much makeup?

A.G.: I prefer to go barefaced. It feels so honest and clean … it’s literally more me! I like to see what my mom and dad gave me whenever possible. If anything, I’ll enhance my lashes with a few individuals at the outer corners, and apply a bit of mascara. A little concealer and a well-shaped brow and I’m ready to go. A good brow really enhances and frames the eyes.

T.T.: What is your mascara of choice?

A.G.: Honestly, I’ve tried many. Lash All You Want Mascara by Mark is really the ultimate mascara.

T.T.: What does your diet consist of?

A.G.: I’m actually quite a foodie. I love a great gourmet meal. In general I stick to greens to stay alkaline, along with fish and chicken. I drink lots of water. I’m always excited to go Europe, because the food is really special.

T.T.: Do you have a favorite treat?

A.G.: I do enjoy an occasional McDonalds ice cream cone … so delicious!

T.T.: What do you aim for with your style?

A.G.: I like to dress in a way that leaves some mystery. I mix masculine and feminine pieces most of the time. And I enjoy classic glamour too.

T.T.: Who is your style icon?

A.G.: Audrey Hepburn. She had such elegance and beauty. Plus she was a great humanitarian. Her internal beauty made her that much more special.

T.T.: Is there an actor you admire?

A.G.: I would say Cate Blanchett. She is so real, effortless and not contrived in any way. Her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth always blows
me away. Also, I really admire Robert Downey Jr. He’s incredibly magnetic, yet simple and easy … genius!

T.T.: You recently filmed a public service announcement, championing a certain cause. Can you tell me a little about that?

A.G.: Yes. It was for m.empowerment by Mark. Its a philanthropic initiative committed to breaking the cycle of dating abuse and partner violence. The 16-24-year-old group experiences the highest rates of partner violence. Mark and I want to help change that statistic.

Get Twilight's Christian Serratos's Fresh, Natural Makeup Look

We're used to seeing Twilight's Christian Serratos in spectacles as Bella Swan's friend, Angela, but last night at the premiere for her new show, American Horror Story, things were a little less serious. "Normally, I am inspired by the colors in the dress a girl wears," explained makeup artist Stephen Sollitto, but in creating this warm, natural palette in particular, he was inspired by Christian herself. Eyes: Sollitto began by sweeping the gold shade from Urban Decay's Naked palette onto Christian's lids. Next, he lined the lashes with MAC Smolder, followed by Nars Coconut Grove (a deep, dark brown) on top. The color was also swept and blended up into the crease and then dotted under the bottom lashes. CoverGirl Lash Blast in Very Black was applied on both the top and bottom lashes for dramatic effect.

Cheeks and lips: Sollitto used Jouer Bloom blush, a warm apricot, on Christian's cheeks. Jouer Nude Glisten lip gloss finished the look.

How To Wear Ashley Greene's Pitch Perfect Nude Lipstick

Ashley Greene’s flawless nude lip is becoming her summer signature. To get the same effect, choose a satin or crème formula (matte lipstick will leave you looking lifeless and washed out). If your skin is fair with pink undertones, like Greene’s, choose a peachy pink nude. If you have a medium to olive complexion, lean more toward a mauve tone. And if you’re naturally dark, caramel and honey hued nudes will be the most flattering. Before you apply, blot your lips with your regular liquid foundation using a makeup sponge—it will neutralize your natural lip color and keep your shade in place all night.

Get Kristen Stewart's All-Drugstore Makeup Look

Kristen Stewart wore her signature palette of smoky eyes and rosy cheeks and lips at the LA Film Festival last night. But what differentiated this particular look is the fact that it was all achieved using drugstore makeup. Fiona Stiles worked with Kristen to create this ultraflattering palette using CoverGirl products, so to see her tips on how you can get the look at home, just read more.

Complexion:

Stiles started by applying the brand's NatureLuxe Silk Foundation with a synthetic brush, blending it out with a damp sponge for a sheer, luminous coverage. To set, she dusted on a small amount of translucent powder.

Eyes:

Stiles applied the rusty bronze shade from the Smoky ShadowBlast in Purple Plume onto Kristen's lash line to just above the crease. The plum color from the Exact Eyelights quad for green eyes was then applied over the ShadowBlast to add depth. For definition, she used the same color on the outer corners of the eyes, as well as right under the lower lashes. To finish, Stiles waterlined Kristen's eyes with LiquilineBlast in Black Fire, smudging a bit into the top lash lines and outer corners. Two coats of black mascara topped it off.

Cheeks and lips:

For a bit of a flushed look, Cheekers blush in Natural Rose was used on the apples of the cheeks. And for the lips, Stiles applied LipPerfection lipliner in Smoky as a base, with LipPerfection lip color in Heavenly on top.

”I prepped Ashley’s skin by applying mark For Goodness Face Antioxidant Skin Moisturizing Lotion SPF 30 all over her face to create a nice, clean canvas. Then, I used mark Primed For Perfection Face Primer for a flawless look. Using the mark Foundation Brush, I applied mark Min-A-Real Cream-To-Powder Foundation with Mineral Pigments in Natural and finished off with mark Good Riddance Hook Up Concealer in Light/Medium under Ashley’s eyes and around her nose.”

Cheeks:
“I wanted to create a natural glow, so I brushed on mark Just Pinched Instant Blush Tint in Peachy using the mark Foundation Brush. Next, I dusted on mark Matte-Nificent Oil-Absorbing Powder in Buff/Natural with the mark Powder Brush to set the look. Using the mark Blush + Bronzer Brush, I layered on mark Good Glowing Mosaic Blush Custom Pick Powder in Chica for lasting coverage.”

Eyes:
“For Ashley’s eyes I started by applying mark Please Hold Eye Primer in Light to Medium all over her lids. Next, I applied mark I-Mark Custom Pick Eye Shadow in Biscotti to Ashley’s inner eyelids as a highlighter using the mark Eyeshadow Brush. Then, I applied mark I-Mark Custom Pick Eye Shadow in Gioia to Ashley’s middle and outer lids, blending the shadow outward using the mark Eyeshadow Brush. I used the mark Angled Contour Eyeshadow Brush to blend and soften the shadow into the creases. Next, I smudged on mark I-Mark Custom Pick Eye Shadow in Java along Ashley’s top and bottom lashlines using the mark Eyeliner Brush. I finished Ashley’s eyes with two coats of mark Lash Splash Hook Up Waterproof mascara in Black to her top and bottom lashes.”

Lips:
“For Ashley’s lips, I mixed mark Lipclick Full Color Lipstick in Coral Fixation and mark Ibiza Sol Marbleized Lip Gloss in Chica Coral for full coverage and luminous shine.”

She dusted on an oil-absorbing powder to set the look, and then, using a round blush brush, she layered on Good Glowing Mosaic Blush Custom Pick Powder in Chica ($8) for extra depth and lasting coverage.

Cheeks:

• “For a natural-looking glow, I applied mark Just Pinched Instant Blush Tint in Cheeky using the mark Foundation Brush. Then, I dusted on mark Matte-Nificent Oil-Absorbing Powder in Honey/Golden with the mark Powder Brush to set the look. Using the mark Blush + Bronzer Brush, I layered on mark Good Glowing Mosaic Blush Custom Pick Powder in Hush Baby to make sure the blush would last all day.”

Eyes:

• “For Nikki’s eyes, I prepped with mark Please Hold Eye Primer in Light/Medium. Using the mark Eyeshadow Brush, I applied mark I-Mark Custom Pick Eye Shadowin Minx to Nikki’s inner eyelids as a highlighter.

• Next, I applied the dark taupe shadow from the mark On The Dot Eye Color Compactto Nikki’s lids, blending it outward with the mark Eyeshadow Brush. I then used the mark Angled Contour Eyeshadow Brush to blend and soften the shadow into the creases of her eyes. I smudged the taupe color eye shadow along Nikki’s top and bottom lashlines using the mark Eyeliner Brush.

• Next, I applied two coats of mark Scanda-Lash Hook Up Mascara in Blacklash to her top and bottom lashes. To finish Nikki’s eyes, I groomed her brows with mark Brow Factor Hook Up Clear Brow Gel.”

Lips:

Polished Skin and Nude Lips

"Kristen Stewart was wearing a stunning Proenza Schouler gown and she and the designers decided they wanted a striking smoky eye with a nude lip," makeup artist Beau Nelson said of the star's 2011 MET Balllook. Of course, the perfect canvas is the start to a flawless face. "I started by applying a silky, lightweight foundation with a synthetic brush in a circular motion to give her skin an even, radiant glow." (Synthetic brushes tend to be less irritating than natural ones, and they last longer.) Nelson swirled foundation on Stewart's lips to blot out their natural color before tapping a moisturizing lipstick on her mouth for a warm nude finish.

Perfect Mascara

As the spokesperson for Mark cosmetics, it's no surprise that Ashley Greene has some pretty expert tricks for applying her flawless makeup. Take the lush, fluttery fringe makeup artist Matthew VanLeeuwen gave the star for the 2011 MET Ball in New York City. "I applied the mascara by wiggling the wand back and forth at the base of lash to deposit color at the roots," he said. "Then, I painted the length of the lashes to get a wispy finish." Before applying mascara to the bottom lashes, VanLeeuwen wiped the wand clean. "That way, the color is very light—this technique gives a glam, young starlet look." We couldn't agree more.

Get the Look: Kristen Stewart at the Met Gala

We're still sleuthing out the nitty-gritty details of Kristen Stewart's Met Gala beauty look, but here's the scoop so far. Clad in a Proenza Schouler dress, Kristen worked with her regular beauty team of hairstylist Adir Abergel and makeup artist Beau Nelson. Her sexy, feline-looking eyes were created with Cover Girl's Liquiline Blast eyeliner, Line Exact liquid liner in Very Black, a black eye shadow, and Lash Blast Fusion mascara — no color necessary.

For Kristen's textured updo, Fekkai stylist Abergel created volume by applying Fekkai Coiff Bouffant Lifting & Texturizing Spray Gel to Kristen's roots to add volume. Next, he used his hands, not a comb, while blow-drying her hair. With a ¾ inch styling iron, he created a natural wave and sprayed Fekkai Beach Waves to retain the curl. Then he let the hair fall into a rough middle part and pulled the hair back into a low chignon. After spraying hair to set it, he let a few pieces fall in front to highlight Kristen's face.

The Perfect Red Lip Color

While red lipstick was a classic, perhaps Marlena took advantage of one of the decade's newest inventions: lip gloss. In fact, an overall sheen was quite popular during this time, with a glow base often used for the complexion, cream rouge on the cheeks, and Vaseline on the eyes (and even brows) used to give a luminescent effect

Polishes For Her Moon Manicure

By the 1930s, the nail polish business was booming, with popular polishes made by the likes of Cutex and Revlon. Perhaps one of these brands was favored by Marlena when creating this then-popular moon manicure — a nail art look that's experiencing a revival today

An Intense Moisturizer

Coming into contact with tough elephant skin and performing circus acts all day can be tough. That's why Marlena likely used Elizabeth Arden's famous Eight Hour Cream (which was invented in 1930) to help hydrate and protect the entire body.

Setting Lotion

To get her sophisticated, highly sculpted waves, Marlena almost certainly would have applied a setting lotion to set her pin curls or finger waves. It was a process that was less harsh than the scary-at-the-time permanent wave. Plus, since it didn't need heat, she could get gorgeous curls on a circus trai

A Stylish Hair Accessory

Everyone needs a little break from nights of perfect coiffures and full-on makeup. For those more casual times, Marlena packed a cute and casual scarf, like this colorfully striped one pictured here. Snoods and hairnets were also widely used during the era.
