Will Taylor still play 'Stretch Armstrong'?

"Stretch Armstrong" lives, but without Taylor Lautner. 
The big-screen adaptation of the flexible, stretchable toy will finally make its way to the big screen thanks to a new partnership between Hasbro and Relativity Media. 
However, the "Twilight" star will no longer be headlining the project due to scheduling conflicts, an individual with knowledge of the project confirmed to TheWrap.
A new cast will be announced shortly. 
Lautner has stumbled in launching a post-"Twilight" career --  the teen pin-up's recent bid for stardom, last fall's "Abduction," disappointed at the box office, grossing grossed $82 million worldwide on a $35 million budget.
"Stretch Armstrong" was originally in development at Universal, which was eyeing a 2012 release for the film. Lautner was on tap to earn a reported $7.5 million for the movie. He had cleared up his dance card to fit the big-budget project into his schedule, dropping out of the superhero film "Max Steel" and the extreme flying story "Northern Lights."

Relativity will be the domestic distributor and will release the film internationally. The film is targeted for an April 11, 2014 release date.

Taylor Lautner admit Stretch Amstrong is still being written!

Taylor Lautner admits a ‘Stretch Armstrong’ film won’t be out for some time. The ‘Twilight Saga’ actor has long been rumoured to play the toy-character in a forthcoming big-screen story, but he admits other projects are on his mind before that movie comes to fruition.

He said: “‘Stretch Armstrong’ is still in the scriptwriting process at the moment, so we are waiting to hear. There are a couple of other things I’m really excited about that haven’t been announced yet.”

The 19-year-old star will next be seen in thriller ‘Abduction’, where he displays his particularly muscular frames many times, and he admits it is hard to get to a large size and keep it up.

He told Movie Hole: “It was very hard to put on, and then it was just as hard to maintain it.” Taylor has recently revealed he would love a career similar to ‘Mission Impossible’ star Tom Cruise. He said: “The most important thing I did was sit down beforehand and watch a lot of movie and study actors that I look up to.

“We studied Tom Cruise in ‘Minority Report’, Harrison Ford, Matt Damon, Denzel Washington .
“I would love [to follow in their footsteps]. That would be an honour, to be compared to people like that. I look up to Tom Cruise and Matt Damon. I would kill to have the careers they’ve had.”

A Look Ahead to Taylor's Up Coming Films

On Taylor Lautner's 19th Birthday, Let's Take A Look Ahead!

We look at the many film projects the birthday boy has in store post-'Breaking Dawn.'

A very happy birthday shout-out goes to Taylor Lautner, who, just one year into adulthood, is the highest-grossing member of "The Twilight Saga" trio and one of the hottest young adult stars in Hollywood. This coming year will undoubtedly be one of the biggest years of the 19-year-old's career as he finishes filming "Breaking Dawn" and embarks on his journey as a leading man after "The Twilight Saga" is finished.

In honor of his big day, we're taking a look at all the projects Lautner has on the horizon. If his current trajectory is anything to judge by, we have a feeling he will be even more popular and earning even more box-office gold at this time next year.

First up is "Abduction," which is being described as a thriller along the lines of the Jason Bourne films. He's done intense amounts of training for the film and it will be his first chance to show off his chops as an action star. It also helps that his co-star, Lily Collins, is another big up-and-comer (she'll star in the adaptation of "City of Bones") and that their combined star power should propel his first major starring role post-"Twilight Saga."
Rounding out 2011 is the much-anticipated release of "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1," which will feature Lautner more than any other film in the series. If the film stays true to the book (and there's no guarantee that it will), about half of it will be shown from his character Jacob's perspective, and it will be up to him and his wolf pack to carry the film. He also ends up with certainly one of the most interesting love interests he's likely to have onscreen during the course of his career.
Aside from the release of "Breaking Dawn - Part 2" in late 2012, Lautner has a couple of other big films on the horizon as well. He returns to the young adult genre in the upcoming adaptation of "Incarceron," and he's shaping up to land a pretty hot co-star for the film. Last we heard, Emma Watson, Blake Lively and Jennifer Lawrence are short-listed for his romantic lead.
And though it's been about a year since we heard major news on Lautner's other upcoming film "Stretch Armstrong," it's likely that he'll start filming it once he's done with "Breaking Dawn" in the next couple of months. It's slated for 2012 and will also likely be his first film in 3-D. It's a good thing, then, that he will "not wear a shirt" during the entire film.
Last but not least, Lautner has his third action film in the form of "Cancun." It's being described as "Taken" meets "Die Hard" and will be produced by Lautner's own production company, Tailor Made. Again, there hasn't been a lot of news on the film recently, but we're excited to see him show off his martial arts skills some more on the big screen.

'Stretch Armstrong' may move to 2013

The film version of the famous Stretch Armstrong toy line may be delayed until 2013, reports say.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie may move from its original release date of 2012.

Owners Hasbo and Universal Pictures will create the film, which will be based on a screenplay written by Forgetting Sarah Marshall director Nicholas Stoller.

Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner is reportedly considering the move due to the large number of Hasbo properties being released as films in 2012, including Battleship, Spider-Man, The Avengers and the 3D reissue of Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace.

Twilight star Taylor Lautner has signed on to play the titular role of Stretch in the movie, which will also be released in 3D.

'Stretch Armstrong' Writer 'Gets' Taylor Obsession

Although he's currently best known for playing hunky werewolf Jacob Black in "The Twilight Saga," Taylor Lautner is about to stretch his acting chops significantly with an all-new action franchise. "Stretch Armstrong," based on the action figure property from Hasbro, follows a special agent who suddenly finds himself with the superpower ability to extend his body beyond normal human limitations.

"Get Him to the Greek" writer and director Nicholas Stoller is currently writing the superhero film's screenplay, but he admitted to MTV News that he has found himself a bit distracted lately. Distracted by what, you ask? None other than Lautner himself!
"I had my first meeting with him, and let me tell you: That dude is handsome," Stoller confessed. "That is one good-looking man. Like, he is — I get it. I get it!"
Pressed for further details on his first impressions of Lautner, Stoller said he hasn't met anyone else in Hollywood who can attract a crowd quite like the "Twilight" sensation does.
"At this point in my career, obviously you spend a lot of time with celebrities," he said. "I've never seen more people approach someone [famous]. So many people come up to him, every age and a lot of French people."
Stoller also admitted that while he hasn't seen Lautner without his shirt on, he certainly wouldn't mind getting a firsthand look at the actor's shirtless physique. "I'm not even going to do the whole 'I'm not gay' type of thing," Stoller laughed. "Anyone, it doesn't matter who you are, would want to see that!"

Taylor 7 'Stretch Armstrong' Get 'Monsters Vs. Aliens' Director

The upcoming "Stretch Armstrong" movie has snared a writer and a director.
According to The Hollywood Reporter Rob Letterman has been signed to direct "Stretch Armstrong." Letterman has previously co-directed "Shark Tale" and "Monsters vs. Aliens" for Dreamworks Animation. His first live-action film is “Gulliver’s Travels,” a comedy starring Jack Black that will be released later this year. Additionally, Nick Stoller — the director of "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" — has also been signed to rewrite Steve Oedekerk's original screenplay.
The "Stretch Armstrong" film picked up momentum earlier this year when "Twilight" star Taylor Lautner was cast in the title role. Lautner also left an adaptation of Mattel's "Max Steel" to focus on "Stretch Armstrong."
The movie adaptation reportedly features Stretch Armstrong as "an uptight spy" who is accidentally exposed to chemicals that change his body and allow him to stretch to previously unimaginable lengths; effectively giving him a new weapon to fight evil while also causing havoc in his everyday life outside of espionage.
Back in 1978, "Stretch Armstrong" made his debut as an action figure which became notable for having arms and legs that could stretch outwards without breaking. The figure's success led to similar characters from the same line, including Stretch Monster and Stretch's "evil brother," appropriately named Evil X-ray Wretch Armstrong. When the Stretch Armstrong figure was reissued in the '90s, his dog, Fetch Armstrong was also introduced to the line.
The "Stretch Armstrong" film is currently expected to be released in 2012.

Taylor Lautner Turns Down 'Max Steel' For 'Stretch Armstrong'

The 'Twilight' star chose the starring role in the upcoming Hasbro toy-based flick.

With "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" actor Taylor Lautner's upcoming movie schedule seemingly stretched to the limit, the budding action star has reportedly decided to drop out of Paramount's "Max Steel" in favor of Universal's "Stretch Armstrong."

According to New York magazine, the 18-year-old will pursue "Armstrong," based on toy manufacturer Hasbro's celebrated action-figure franchise, instead of "Max Steel," which is based on a product from Mattel, a rival of Hasbro's. Although Lautner was set to headline both films, the young "Twilight" actor allegedly sided with Hasbro due to the company's impressive track record in Hollywood.

"[In] the weeks after signing on to play Steel, Lautner became increasingly convinced that Hasbro was playing its hand better than Mattel," states the report. "Thanks to WME [Entertainment, Lautner's agency], Hasbro was moving with far greater speed through Hollywood's development maze than Mattel, not only setting up projects, but quickly moving them forward."

Hasbro has already seen movies based on their popular "Transformers" and "G.I. Joe" franchises. Additionally, the toy company has production plans for "Candy Land," "Battleship" and "Risk" adaptations. As one insider told the magazine, "When you sign up to make a movie with Hasbro, you know it will be in theaters a year later."

The report also states that "Monsters vs. Aliens" director Rob Letterman is speaking with Universal Pictures about directing "Stretch Armstrong" for the studio.

Lautner landed the title role in "Stretch Armstrong" earlier this month. He'll star as an uptight spy who is exposed to a formula that allows him to stretch his body beyond normal human limitations. Given his new powers, the hero is forced to reconsider not only his own crime-fighting tactics, but also how he goes about his everyday life.

"He's an accidental superhero. Really what he is, is he's going to be a guy much like [Lautner] himself," explained Hasbro CEO and "Stretch Armstrong" producer Brian Goldner in a recent exclusive interview with MTV News. "A guy who knows mixed martial arts, a guy who is going off to college, a guy who's trying to have a freshman year at college something along those lines and everything kind of ensues from there."

The Universal film is slated for a 3-D release in 2012. In addition to "Armstrong," Lautner is signed on to star in "Cancun," a martial-arts-focused action film.
