Kristen Stewart's next movie: K-11

Looks like Kristen Stewart has another project to add to her IMDb listing this year (as if On the Road, Snow White and the Huntsman and Breaking Dawn: Part 2 weren't enough)—and she's keeping it all in the family.
Though K.Stew's schedule kept her from taking on a starring role in mom Jules Stewart's directorial debut, K-11, she had enough time for a quick cameo. And we've got the exclusive scoop on who she will play:
Last night Jules (aka @RealJulesStew) sent Kristen fans in a tizzy when she tweeted: "Excited to say that a final stage addition to @K11OfficialFilm is Kristen playing a small role. #K11"
And we can confirm it's true! Representatives for Jules tell us that the younger Ms. Stewart will join the family (her brother Cameron Stewart is also appearing in the gritty drama) for a small role in the film.
So who will she play?
Karen, the secretary of Goran Visnjic's dissipated record producer, who finds himself locked up in L.A.
County's notorious K-11 unit, which specializes in special protection for LGBT inmates.  
"Kristen has always been supportive of K-11," Jules told us exclusively, "but you'll have to look very hard
to find her.  It's a micro-cameo."  
Actually, we should say you'll have to listen very hard.
Because Kristen's role is actually a voice-over: "We'd already finished shooting the movie, but Kristen still wanted to be a part of it in some way," Jules said.
Now you know to be on high alert for that oh-so-familiar voice when the movie debuts. And while rumors circulated the web that it would premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival, it's still currently in postproduction.
All right, all together now: Awww! We love to see the Stewart women supporting each other.

Is Kristen's Brother Going to Be a Star Too?

As Kristen Stewart fans know, the Twilight megastar will not be starring in her mom Jules Mann-Stewart's directorial debut, K-11.
But that's OK. It's still a family affair: K.Stew's older brother, Cameron, landed a role in the indie drama...
"He's amazing," True Blood actress Tara Buck, who plays a transsexual in the movie, told us the other night at the Patterns for Paws event in Los Angeles. "He's the sweetest guy. Really open and incredibly professional. It was his first [major] movie and he does a spectacular job. He's gorgeous, so I think you'll probably see a lot more of him."
K-11 is a prison drama that follows the story of a music mogul (Goran Visnjic) who wakes up in a Los Angeles jail after a three-day binge of partying. Cameron plays an inmate named Sledgehammer.
As for how mama Stewart is doing with her directorial debut?
"Honestly, she is one of my favorite directors I've ever worked with," Buck gushed. "She wrote the movie herself and just knows every detail of what she wanted. So truly I felt like I was completely protected and in great hands."

So I’ve completed my first week of shooting on the movie K-11, and I am in awe at just how cool everyone is on set. I mean, so far, no outbursts, no dramas (at least not that I can see) and everyone involved is super nice. So much talent and drive and commitment in one place – it’s really infectious.
I can’t divulge anything about the movie itself, other than my character’s name is Hollywood, but I’m caught up in it big time and want to give my best every day. I’m watching and learning at every opportunity, trying to soak it all up – I love acting and making movies and the only way to learn and get better is to shut up and listen. Watch the people who have been doing it for 20 years. You learn little tricks, pick up a process or a mood, practice accents…..even though you are in front of a rolling camera for a total of about 20 minutes a day, the rest of the stuff is where you really get better. Watching the cameras as they block, watching other actors prepare, making sure you are aware of the thousands of things that are happening around you each take and trying to retain continuity. Thats the shit I’m learning. I love it and am grateful to everyone on that movie for allowing me to be involved.

Will Kristenstill act in “K-11”?

hollywoodnews.com: “K-11” is the baby of Jules Mann-Stewart, writer/director of the film and mother of “Twilight” mega-star, Kristen. The film appeared to be building steam after Variety’s March announcement that the project had finally secured financing. Yet, several recent developments indicate that Stewart will not be starring in the film, as had originally been believed.
For months, IMDB Pro had “K-11” listed as a rumored project for Stewart, referencing her role as that of autistic transgender prison inmate Butterfly. Not only has IMDB Pro removed this listing from Stewart’s profile in recent weeks—it has kept listings of other rumored cast, such as Goran Visnjic and D.B. Sweeney.
Another indicator: actor-targeted computer app, Actsophia, posted a casting call announcement on its Facebook page on June 1st, announcing that “Pam Dixon is casting “K-11”” and mentioning role descriptions including this one: “BUTTERFLY 19 Redhead Tiny Beauty”.
In terms of Stewart’s production schedule, “Snow White and the Huntsman” is slated to begin shooting in September. Stewart is also listed for a role in “Backwoods”, a short that is also slated to be played by Julianne Moore. “K-11” was originally slated to begin filming in June or July, yet concrete cast details remain nonexistent.
Also casting doubt on Stewart’s intention to act in the film is the fact that her role as Butterfly was rarely (if ever) discussed by Stewart herself. It was mostly discussed by Stewart’s “Twilight” co-star Nikki Reed, who first commented in March 2009 to MTV News: “Kristen is playing a boy, and I am playing a man who is quite a few years older than she is. I am working more on my accent.” Reed since announced her departure from the project in April 2010.

Intandem to rep Stewart's 'K-11'

Prison drama set to shoot in L.A. this summer

London-based sales and financing house Intandem Films has pacted with L.A. shingle Libertine Films to handle international sales on edgy drama "K-11."

Directed and written by first-time feature helmer Jules Stewart, the pic is a dark and complex character ensemble set in a special unit of L.A. County's Men's Central Jail dedicated to vulnerable prisoners.

Jules Stewart is the mother of thesp Kristen Stewart, and although press reports have linked the actress with the project, Intandem would not comment, but said casting was now on fast-track.

The indie pic is fully financed and skedded to shoot on location in L.A. this July, and is likely to preem at Berlin next year.

Libertine prexy Tom Wright will produce.

Libertine retains all North American rights for the film, with Intandem's CEO Gary Smith serving as consultant on the negotiations.

Smith said: "Libertine Films has a diverse slate of films and we look forward to developing a long and successful collaboration with them."

Jules Stewart, who is repped by ICM's Joanne Wiles, formed Libertine with Wright after working for many years as a script supervisor.

Nikki Reed and her BFF Kristen Stewart have been hyping their bizarre upcoming film, K-11, for nearly two years, but Nikki dished to us she’s no longer doing the project — and acted like she’d barely even heard of it!

“I’m actually not a part of that,” the 21-year-old Twilight starlet said April 12 at the Simply Shakespeare fundraiser in Santa Monica, Calif. “Yeahhhh, I was. I’m not anymore.”

And that was that. Not only did she not elaborate, she acted shocked at the question!

In the film, Nikki was set to play Mousey, a tattooed, meth head transgender, who landed in jail with Butterfly (Kristen Stewart), an autistic transgender.

“It’s a great project, and obviously I have a lot of faith in Kristen and her mom, Jules Stewart, who wrote the script and is directing it,” Reed told MTV News March 23, 2009, nearly six months after the film supposedly began pre-production. “Kristen is playing a boy, and I am playing a man who is quite a few years older than she is. I am working more on my accent. Mousey is Mexican, and she comes from a very specific place in Southern California.

Kristen Still Hopes K-11 to happen

Back in March, we learned of a plan for "Twilight" players Kristen Stewart and Nikki Reed to appear together "in a fact-based drama/comedy that would have them playing men." The movie, called "K-11," would mark the directorial debut of Stewart's mother, Jules. And it would place the two ladies-as-men in an LA prison with co-star Jason Mewes. Wacky.
We caught up with Kristen this week as she was promoting the Friday release of her latest effort, "The Runaways," and she shared a little bit of what's been going on with "K-11" since we last heard about it.

"It's just one of those things where you try and get a movie off the ground that's small," Kristen said of the non-movement.
Money seems to be the biggest problem right now. Even with Kristen involved -- arguably one of the bigger stars out there right now -- "K-11" is just not coming together. It's admittedly a tough sell. Stewart and Reed may be hot commodities in Hollywood, but with the former playing an autistic male-to-female transsexual and the latter playing a tattoo-covered, meth-addicted transgender, the sexy appeal of ladies in prison is somewhat diminished, to say the least.
Still, Kristen remains hopeful, if realistic. "It just never got legs," she said. "I still really hope to do it." I hope she gets to as well. It might not be the most marketable idea ever conceived, but I'm ever-curious to see how the "Twilight" stars leverage their unexpected success. Robert Pattinson wowed his fans with last week's "Remember Me," and early reports indicate that Kristen will do the same with "The Runaways" this weekend.

Kristen Still 'Hopes' To Make Indie Flick 'K-11'

HOLLYWOOD — In late 2008, it was hard to find two hotter Hollywood talents than Kristen Stewart and Nikki Reed. The co-stars and real-life best friends had just taken over Hollywood with the surprising success of "Twilight," had "New Moon" and other sequels on the way and were being courted by producers all over Hollywood. But rather than sign up for some generic teen-road-trip movie or romantic comedy, the duo chose to reunite ... in a fact-based drama/comedy that would have them playing men?

It was called "K-11," and from the moment of its inception it became one of the stranger projects being developed in the business — particularly because it seemed like such a daring choice for Stewart and Reed. KStew was slated to portray a male-to-female transsexual prisoner with autism, while Reed would play a fellow inmate who was transgender and addicted to meth. When we caught up with the girls at the "Twilight" premiere in November '08, it was full steam ahead — so, what happened?
"Yeah," was Kristen's response when we brought up the project to her recently, asking if she still thought the film would get made. "Totally.
"It's just one of those things where you try and get a movie off the ground that's small," added the actress, whose love for indie cinema is on display once again with "The Runaways" this week, which follows on the heels of everything from "The Yellow Handkerchief," "Adventureland," "The Cake Eaters" and other independently financed, outside-the-box films.
The movie was to mark the directorial debut of Kristen's mother, Jules Stewart. Reed was looking forward to sinking her teeth into the role of Mousey, a 30-year-old man covered in tattoos and a three-day growth. Based on a real dormitory in the L.A. County jail and co-starring Jason Mewes, "K-11" was a comedy/drama that would depict the unusual family dynamic of the prison.
But, despite the fact that it is nearly impossible to find any actress in Hollywood more desirable than Kristen Stewart these days, she revealed to us that "K-11" is still having a hard time securing financing.
"I don't know [whether it will get made]," she explained. "Like, right now it's harder [to get indie films made]."
Due to the economy and the general marketplace for independently made, experimental productions, Stewart's sentiment is one often echoed by filmmakers.
"It just never got legs," Stewart said of the flick, insisting that she's still holding out hope. "I still really hope to do it."
