Buzz Backtrack: The Best and Worst of November Entertainment

November is almost over, and entertainment's holiday season has kicked off. We've already been gifted with fantastic films like The Muppets, as well as promising previews for movies on the horizon. Not everything has been a delight, though; the month also gave us some bad news forCommunity and some less-than-amazing trailers. November sweeps and the release of the latest Twilight movie also gave us a lot to talk about, but now that the month is over, it's time to look back and decree November's best and worst in entertainment.

Best Soundtrack: Breaking Dawn

There may have been times when I wanted to close my eyes during the Twilight Saga's latest film, but I never wanted to cover my ears. TheBreaking Dawn Part 1 soundtrack is an outstanding compilation of indie and pop artists like Iron & Wine and Bruno Mars, coming together to make the perfect atmosphere for the film. Whether it's a track to accompany a wedding ("Flightless Bird, American Mouth"), a love scene ("Turning Page"), or an ominous after-the-credits visit with the Volturi ("I Didn't Mean It"), we're listening closely.

Bruno Mars’ “It Will Rain” Video: 5 Reasons Twilight Fans Should Love It

“There’ll be no sunlight, if I lose you, baby,” Bruno Mars sings in the Breaking Dawn – Part 1 soundtrack single “It Will Rain.” And while the video for the song, which premiered last night, features more of Bruno and a model than Rob and Kristen, it also has a whole lot for Twilight fans to like. Here’s a little countdown:

5: The anguish of Bruno’s lyrics and song, plus the images of rain on the window pain, are so much like the pain we felt when Edward left Forks in New Moon. And like when we finished reading Stephenie Meyer‘s books for the first time and realized there were no more. Or, you know, when you experienced real-life heartbreak. Same thing.

4. Amazing interior-decorating ideas! Love the blue vases, the shabby-chic paint and furniture, and the buckets on the floor. Who knew a leaky roof could look so good?

3. So many romantic scenes of Bruno and his girl cuddling, playing, learning guitar. Even when it’s not Edward and Bella, it sets our hearts a-flutter.

We have to wait until next week to see the wedding, honeymoon, and love scenes of Breaking Dawn, but you can have an early taste of the film with the soundtrack, which is out today. I always look forward to the well-curated Twilight soundtracks and their mix of songs that reflect the darkly romantic tone of the films (I still regularly listen to the New Moon and Eclipse albums). The latest soundtrack is a bit less moody than its predecessors, but it's still an awesome variety of indie gems, bold rock, and romantic but not cheesy ballads. I've picked my top five favorites to highlight (see the full Breaking Dawn soundtrack listing here).

• "Endtapes" by The Joy Formidable: The first track is an upbeat indie rock jam, with its edges softened by the sweet voice of the female lead singer. The infectious drum beat makes you feel like something exciting is coming — a fitting opener for such a solid soundtrack.
• "A Thousand Years" by Christina Perri: Perri's beautiful ballad is lyrically perfect for Edward and Bella's relationship; she sings "I have loved you for a thousand years . . . I'll love for a thousand more." Even if you're not a vampire, the sentiment will make you swoon.
• "I Didn't Mean It" by The Belle Brigade: One of the big, loud rock songs of the soundtrack, it rouses you from any sort of dreamy coma the previous love songs may have lulled you into. I'm hoping it accompanies some kind of badass werewolf moment.
• "It Will Rain" by Bruno Mars: With Edward and Bella married and therefore stable in their relationship, there are fewer songs about heartbreak, but Edward still has to worry about losing Bella to death. Bruno Mars is best known for his jaunty pop songs, but he gets emotional for this haunting song. The beat and passion in Mars's vocals make this the sexy standout.
• "Flightless Bird, American Mouth" (Wedding Version) by Iron & Wine: Any fan of the Twilight series will recognize this song from Edward and Bella's memorable slow dance at the prom. Iron & Wine have updated the gorgeous love song into a version for the wedding with more strings and a more formal vibe that's even lusher than the original. I imagine this song to be the happy couple's first dance, and I get the chills listening to it and thinking about it.

MTV: Bruno Mars Pens A Love Song In 'Breaking Dawn' Video

After a slight delay, the video for Bruno Mars' "It Will Rain" is finally here, and the clip opens with a pivotal scene from "Breaking Dawn - Part 1."
After the opening sequence with Bella and Edward getting married in front of their friends and family, the video cuts to a love story between Mars, who recorded the track especially for the Bill Condon-directed flick, and his lovely leading lady.

Bruno and his onscreen love experience the many joys, trials and tribulations of being in a relationship. And as is often the case in real life, things starts out cute; every little moment and snuggle is more romantic than the one before. Bruno goes out of his way to court his female friend, even holding a private screening of "Breaking Dawn" to woo her. They share kisses as footage of Bella and Edward's honeymoon flashes on the wall. But at some point, the pair begin to fight, though Bruno isn't going to let her go that easily: He uses his songwriting skills to persuade her to stay with him.
The heartbreak expressed on the track is mirrored in solo shots of Bruno standing around looking sullen. As the video closes out, we see that the song Bruno wrote while his lady was asleep turned out to be romantic enough to win her back.
In the final shot, Bruno stands alone while rain hits the window behind him and sings, "Cause there'll be no sunlight if I lose you, baby/ There'll be no clear skies if I lose you, baby/ Just like the clouds, my eyes will do the same if you walk away/ Every day, it will rain, rain, rain."
The soundtrack for "Breaking Dawn - Part 1" was released this week and features tracks from Mars, Christina Perri ("A Thousand Years") and Theophilus London ("Neighbors"), to name a few

Breaking Dawn Part 1 Soundtrack Influential Music Supervisor Shines Spotlight on Little Known Rockers

Out of the 15 acts of the bands on the Breaking Dawn Soundtrack, four are unsigned. How were the songs picked?

For the latest installment, Ms. Patsavas says she and her Chop Shop team of seven people weeded through 2,000 song submissions, then worked with director Bill Condon and editor Virginia Katz to decide on the best fits. Coloring the overall sound: the climactic wedding between the vampire Edward (Robert Pattinson) and his mortal love Bella (Kristen Stewart). Ms. Patsavas says she hunted for numbers that could be used (and now undoubtedly will be) at real-life weddings.

'Breaking Dawn' Director Explains Revisiting 'Twilight' Ballad

'Flightless Bird, American Mouth' was 'such a great powerful, romantic song for those characters,' Bill Condon says of Iron & Wine tune.

Fans of the original "Twilight" soundtrack got a pleasant surprise when the recently released track list for "Breaking Dawn - Part 1" revealed that Iron & Wine's melancholy ballad "Flightless Bird, American Mouth (Wedding Version)" was among the cuts.

Twilighters — who are no doubt gearing up for Thursday's "MTV First" with Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner at 7:56 p.m. on MTV and MTV.com — will recall that the song made its "Saga" debut in the closing moments of"Twilight" as Bella and Edward shared their first dance. And according to "Breaking Dawn"director Bill Condon, the retread of this memorable number was an important reference for him to make.
"I always thought of this movie as the bookend to the first movie, and that was such a great powerful, romantic song for those characters," he told MTV News during a phone interview last week. "It just felt right to kind of refer back to it at this important, important moment," he added about "Breaking Dawn - Part 1," the first of the two-part finale.
Of course, Condon wouldn't reveal exactly which important moment this song will accompany in the November 18 film, leaving fans to wonder whether its delicate strains will find their way into the wedding itself or perhaps Mr. and Mrs. Cullen's first dance as man and wife.
Condon did divulge, however, that the song is just one of many callbacks to earlier "Twilight Saga" films."[There are] quite a few," he confirmed. "Musically, I would say at the wedding there's a jazz quartet that plays a couple of tracks from 'Eclipse.' Carter Burwell has come back to do the score. He did the first movie, so 'Bella's Lullaby' features in this movie too."
Moral of the story: Keep your eyes and ears peeled for touching tributes to "Breaking Dawn" predecessors.

Bella Brigade “I Didn’t Mean It” Official Lyrics Video from Breaking Dawn Soundtrack

Brother-sister duo the Belle Brigade didn't set out to write "I Didn't Mean It" for the Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 soundtrack, but it came out ideally suited to the mood of the hyper-romantic vampire flick. "We wrote 'I Didn't Mean It' while housesitting for our friend with a piano," says frontwoman Barbara Gruska. "We pretty much wrote the whole  song in a few hours, which is a lot faster than usual. We were really excited about the song when we wrote it, and it kind of sat around for a little while until we were asked for material for Twilight. The song is about jealousy, so it works well with the whole Twilight love triangle."

Ryan OèNeal from Sleeping At Last Interview

Sleeping At Last’s song “Turning Page” is featured on the upcoming Twilight Saga Breaking Dawn Part 1 Soundtrack, which will be released on November 8th.  Complete soundtrack listing is available here.

The band is composed of solo artist Ryan O’Neal (voice, guitars, piano).  A few of their songs have been featured on the ABC television show, “Private Practice.”  Ryan just finished up his latest project called “Yearbook”, where he released three new songs a month for an entire year to collect into a 36 song/12 EP album (more info on Yearbook here).

We were happy to interview Sleeping At Last by email before they hit the road as part of the travelling Twilight promotion effort.  Sleeping at Last will be performing in San Francisco, Salt Lake City and Los Angeles on the Twilight Tour (list of showshere).

Pattinson Post: How would you describe your music?

Sleeping at Last: that should be such an easy question to answer, but i always seem to stumble over it! i’ll give it my best shot though… my music is sometimes on the gentler side of things. it features a rotating cast of different instruments.. from guitars, drums and bass instrumentation to pianos, banjos, ukeleles, and lots of orchestral instruments as well. i love strings! so strings find their way often into my songs. i’d say the genre fits somewhere in between indie, folk and alternative. aside from that, i just try to write very personal songs.

PP: You wrote “Turning Page” exclusively for the soundtrack.  How did that happen?

SAL: yes! i wrote “turning page” a few months back, as a hopeful submission for the film. it’s a love song! i watched the 3 previous films back to back and did a bit of research on what’s to come in the story… and gave it my best shot! i couldn’t believe it when i found out that it was chosen! there was a few months that went by after i submitted the song and i hadn’t heard any word on it, so when i heard the news, only a little while ago now, it was all completely surreal… still shocked. i just feel so extremely privileged to be a part of the twilight saga, and am so grateful to the folks behind the scenes for giving this song a home in their film. i cannot wait for the soundtrack and film to release and for folks to hear it!

PP: Did you know what part of the movie the song would be used for and can you tell us what that is?

SAL: as you probably know, the twilight world is very understandably secretive, so i’m not entirely sure where the song will be placed! BUT i do know that an instrumental version of “turning page” will be in one scene and the regular version of the song will be in another! it was announced a little bit ago that the instrumental version appears as a bonus track on the deluxe version of the soundtrack, in addition to the regular version! so needless to say, i’m out of my mind excited!

PP: We know you’re Team Edward.  What do you like about Edward and Rob Pattinson?

SAL: it’s true.. i’m team edward.. don’t get me wrong, team jacob-ers.. werewolves are super cool, BUT vampires? come on. as for what i like about edward.. i appreciate his gentleman-ness, seriousness and overall vampire-ness. as for rob himself, although i have’t met him, he seems like a good guy and he does a fantastic job at being edward – i will also say that his acting in water for elephants was quite superb! plus, i like his singing voice.  i’ve only heard a song or two, but was very surprised by the soulful voice he has. very talented fellow, that mr. pattinson!

PP: You are part of the Twilight Tour with other soundtrack artists Christina Perri, Lucy Schwartz and Aqualung.  How did you get that honor?

SAL: i’m not sure, but i’m so so excited about it!! couldn’t be more thrilled! what a privilege to get to meet some of the cast and to play some songs for twilight fans! cannnnot wait.

PP: Several Twilight stars will be on the tour,including Peter Facinelli, Jackson Rathbone, Nikki Reed, Kellan Lutz and Elizabeth Reaser.  If you get to meet them, who would you be most excited to see?

SAL: so excited to meet all of them, of course! but if i HAD to choose… i think it’ll be cool to meet ”alice,” (aka ashley greene) since she can see into the future and all. that would be a handy skill to have… i hope she can meet me.

PP: Will you attend the L.A. Premiere of the movie?

SAL: gosh, that’d be super amazing – i sure hope to!! cannot wait to see the movie!

MTV: 'Breaking Dawn' 'Blew My Mind,' Christina Perri Says

One of the perks of being asked to contribute to a soundtrack includes seeing the flick long before anyone else. For self-proclaimed Twilighter Christina Perri, getting a first look at "Breaking Dawn- Part 1" before it opens November 18 was a pretty big deal.

"When I screened the movie, it was definitely one of my favorite days ever," she told MTV News on the set of the video for her "Breaking Dawn" track, "A Thousand Years." "I went with all these Hollywood people, and they were there for work, and I was there for work to get inspired to write a song, but I was an über-fan, like, sitting in the front crying. And I had the best time ever."
So did the film live up to all her expectations? "The movie was unbelievable!" she gushed. "It's my favorite now, so I definitely had the best time ever. [It's my] favorite of the whole series. It definitely blew my mind, and I will say, I can't say anything about it, [but] I will say that if you're a 'Twilight' fan, you will be very happy, 'cause it was my favorite one."
Perri notes that previously revealed plot points, like the wedding, honeymoon and birth scene, live up to the hype. "I think the fans are most excited about the wedding, the sex scene and then the baby, but they're the three best parts of the book," she said. "But everyone's going to be really happy. I don't know how I kept this all a secret. I respect the privacy of the gigantic franchise. Why would you want to give it away?"
Perri is one of many artists who appear on the soundtrack, including Theophilus London, the Joy Formidable and Bruno Mars. The album hits stores November 8, just 10 days before the Bill Condon-directed "Breaking Dawn" opens November 18. A video for Mars' track, "It Will Rain," is slated to drop "in a couple weeks," as Mars alerted fans earlier this week. The last part of the "Twilight Saga," "Breaking Dawn - Part 2," opens November 2012.
