Something Twilight... From Guri

Where have I been? I ask myself this question every day, recently. At the risk of sounding unnecessarily dramatic, I have been involved in the longest, most challenging, scariest project I have ever undertaken. I have sacrificed and sweated and agonized - for good reason. Most of the folks involved are above my pay grade. And it's been a secret. Soon, I will return to "TwiMadness' with a vengeance…for now, just another blog post about my nutty Twilight experiences.

I get asked 3 questions all the time. Hard as it may be to believe, I have a few anecdotes in reply:

What's it like working with Stephenie Meyer?

Stephenie's success is just staggering and I am pretty sure many would and probably did feel intimidated around her. Here's the secret about Stephenie that I accidentally discovered, though…she is normal. REALLY normal. And funny. But mostly normal…like the kind of person you'd hang out with. Just to shoot the shit.

At first, I was pretty shy…for me. And nervous - I met Stephenie AFTER I'd been cast when some of us were called down to Baton Rouge for a make-up/wardrobe test before shooting began. So, I didn't know how she felt about me or my choices for Stefan. I mean, I know if she would have HATED my audition tape, I wouldn't be there but you know, maybe she was just like "Eh…Guri…whatever…thank GOD we also got better actors…"

When I finally met her in Baton Rouge, I was already in costume and make-up. I shook her hand and she said, "You are EXACTLY how I pictured Stefan" and smiled. And I relaxed. Like a baby, actually. In fact, I wet my pants…not really. Okay, a little.

So, from that point on, we just clicked. We chatted a lot and some folks that hadn't quite figured out the 'normal' part about her were speculating as to what she had to say and if there was any 'Twilight' secrets she shared. I actually had some folks come up to me asking, "What do you talk about?" So, as a public service, I would like to disclose one of our 'top secret' conversations now. I think the one that sums it up best is this story :

On set, there were different 'video villages' which are areas with monitors displaying different camera angles and chairs huddled around. It was a bit tense on set as we were behind schedule. However, I'm just an actor in a VERY silly mood and so I go find Stephenie…'cause her village was down like that.

"Guuuuurrrrriiiiii….how are ya?"

"Bothered, Stephenie."

"What's wrong?", she asks, all sincerely.

"Where are the Jewish vampires, Stephenie? Not ONE Jewish vampire?!?"

She laughs. "Because it goes against everything Judaism is about, GURI."

"I don't think you're seeing it. See, if there were some Jews in the vamp camp, we could sidestep all battles in favor of negotiation…plus, I think the vamp world needs a good kosher deli…"

Now, I notice Lily Collins there. She's laughing at my stupid Jewish vampire joke, so I immediately like her. And to the fans that are trying to stir up competition between the two Snow White movies, IMHO, they are VERY different films, they BOTH look great and I am a fan of BOTH actresses.

Back to the day. So, Stephenie is telling me about 'The Hunger Games' and what a great book that is and then we discuss the sacrifices we will all be making that night, as shooting is going to go LATE. I mention that I am VERY distressed that I will be missing my new favorite show, 'The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills'. My wife's agitated and colorful commentary after each episode is just nothing short of priceless. But, that night, alas…no RHOBH. Stephenie doesn't even know the show and I'm aghast. Lily is also aghast. I look at Lily, who I now see is an incredibly astute young woman with FINE taste in reality television and we high five. We then describe the show to Stephenie by acting it out. She seems unimpressed by the show yet oddly adamant that we keep discussing our viewpoints about it with her. Oh! Right - and then Stephenie makes fun of me AD NAUSEUM for watching it. Not Lily, she got off scott-free for her allegiance to RHOBH. Just me. Whatever.

So, now everyone knows. Jewish vampires and the The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills are excellent examples of the scintillating, exclusive topics Stephenie and I discussed.

Taylor Lautner: I had instant chemistry with Lily

Taylor Lautner says he had instant chemistry with new girlfriend Lily Collins.

The 19-year-old Twilight star is appearing in new movie Abduction with Lily, 22, and says there was a spark between them straight away.

Speaking in the October issue of Seventeen magazine, the heartthrob opened up about the infancy of their relationship.

“You can feel some sort of chemistry or a connection when you are reading a script with someone for the first time,” he said. “And that was totally the case with Lily.”

Not content with starring in one of the most successful movie franchises of all time, Taylor said his big ambition is to win the ultimate acting prize.

“I believe in the saying, ‘If you aim at nothing, you’re going to hit nothing.’ So if you don’t set goals then you have nowhere to go,” he shared of his philosophy.

“I guess winning an Oscar is the ultimate dream. A lot of amazing actors go their whole career without even being nominated.

“So that would definitely be a goal to reach. It’s a difficult one, but I’m aiming for it!”

'Abduction' Star Lily Collins Talks Taylor Lautner Kiss

Trailer shows only a 'minor part' of steamy scene, the actress reveals in our Fall Movie Preview.

Lily Collins is just two years into her burgeoning film career, but the 22-year-old actress has already racked up an impressive collection of A-list co-stars, including Sandra Bullock and Julia Roberts. And, of course, "Twilight" hunk Taylor Lautner, who stars alongside Collins in the upcoming"Abduction."

The action-thriller centers on Lautner's Nathan, who goes on the run with classmate Karen (Collins) to uncover his true identity after he discovers he's actually a missing child. In anticipation of the September 23 release, we called up Collins to chat about this latest action-packed role, doing her own stunts and ... that smooch with Lautner.

MTV: Where does your character, Karen, fit on the spectrum of damsel in distress to kickass heroine?
Lily Collins: We meet her in high school at the beginning of the story, and she's had some sort of awkward past with Nathan that is alluded to, and they're really awkward with each other at the beginning. She's [a] cheerleader-kind of popular girl in school. And through this school assignment, she's thrown into this crazy on-the-run journey with Nathan. And she starts out a young high school student and she grows into a woman quite fast during the story. She ends up kicking butt.
MTV: We've seen Lautner sliding down buildings and generally being badass in the trailer, but how physical was this role for you?
Collins: I get physical in the film but also use my surroundings and take note and use my mind to get out of things, like my female smarts.
I got to do pretty much all of my own stunts. Ever since "Priest," I've gotten really into stunt training. For "Snow White," it's been very intense fight training and fencing for a few months, but not for "Abduction." I didn't have training. I'd get to try things out a couple of times before we actually shot it. For me, I love just kind of diving into it. I don't mind if I'm bruised or bumped or whatever. I feel like the more bumps and bruises I get, the more into it I'm getting and the more real it's looking.
MTV: We have to talk about that hot train kiss between you and Taylor. You know MTV likes to give out Golden Popcorns for such things. Could you see "Abduction" scoring a Best Kiss honor at the Movie Awards?
Collins: [Laughs] Well, let's just say the trailer only shows a minor part of that scene. So I think when people see the entire scene and where it starts and where it ends, I think people will get a little bit more excited about the scene when they see the entire thing. It was a crazy, funny scene to shoot, and Taylor made everything very comfortable. We'll see what people say. Like I said, the trailer shows only a minor part of it.
MTV: Perhaps you just answered this next question, but what was your favorite scene to film?
Collins: [Laughs] No. [It's when] the house explodes and we have to jump into the pool and we have debris falling on us. We did a separate day when we filmed solely underwater because we're thrown into this pool, and the camera goes underwater and fire is everywhere. I'd never done something like that. You know, holding your breath for however long it was and having fire in the swimming pool we shot in and stuff falling on you, it was really so in the moment and energetic and very crazy to be shooting like that.

Best: Kristen Stewart

Even though Robert Pattinson dissed her in favor of a make-out sesh with Taylor Lautner after they won Best Kiss for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, we have a feeling Kristen Stewart enjoyed herself at the MTV Movie Awards. Not only did she scoop up the golden popcorn for Best Actress, Balmain custom-made her edgy red dress with safety pin accents, and her sleek long hairstyle looks gorgeous.

Worst: Nikki Reed

Despite being beautiful and smart, Nikki Reed doesnot know how to dress for her body type. Thisdress, with it's sheer overlay that hides her legs--her best feature--and emphasizes that she is short-waisted, is all wrong for her. Then again, I view sheer overlays as the non-committal boyfriends of the dress world. Are you a gown or a short dress? Pick a length! No one ever says "Why buy the cow if you can get the illusion of a longer cow for free?"

Best: Lily Collins

I personally would rather wear an 'NSYNC t-shirt with suspenders and Pajama Jeans than animal print, but I'll admit when someone else does it right. The jaguar print on Lily Collins' dress is perfectly proportioned for her petite frame, and the gray and black coloring makes her rich brunette hairstyle pop.

Best: Reese Witherspoon

Reese Witherspoon looks as flawless at 35 as she did when she played Elle Woods in Legally Blonde. The only thing that's changed? Now, the actress has more famous friends to present awards to her, including Patrick Dempsey, Robert Pattinson (who dropped the f-bomb on live television--whoops) and Chelsea Handler.

Relativity Moves Up Snow White Film to March to Beat Universal

The film was originally set for a June 29, 2012 release before Universal's "Snow White and the Huntsman" was moved up to June 1; Relativity lobs its own shot by dating two other movies on weekends already occupied by Universal

Who’s the fairest of them all? Perhaps the one who’s first.

The battle over dueling Snow White films took another dramatic turn Tuesday as Relativity fired back at Universal by moving up the release of its untitled Brothers Grimm: Snow White movie from June 29, 2012, to March 16, 2012 — ahead of Universal’s Snow White and the Huntsman.

A week ago, Universal caught Relativity off-guard when it announced it would open Huntsman on June 1, 2012, instead of December 2012.

At this point, it’s unclear whether Universal has the leeway to push up the release of its film again. As of now, director Rupert Sanders isn’t scheduled to start shooting Huntsman, produced by Alice in Wonderland’s Joe Roth, until August.

Director Tarsem Singh is set to start production on Relativity’s Snow White tale next month.

The tug-of-war between the companies has surprised many in Hollywood, considering Ryan Kavanaugh’s Relativity has co-financed a slew of Universal titles.

It also reflects the shift in Relativity’s interests since Kavanaugh launched his own domestic distribution operation. Snow White — starring Julia Roberts, Lily Collins and Armie Hammer — is one of Relativity’s highest-profile projects.

Relativity leaves behind one of the most lucrative frames of the year in vacating the June 29 date, since it falls just before the Fourth of July holiday. But opening on the heels of Huntsmancould pose difficulties.

The March-April corridor can be a lucrative stretch at the box office because of spring break and the Easter holiday, particularly for family-friendly fare like Relativity’s Snow White. But the Relativity movie will have plenty of competition; for example, Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games opens March 23.

There will now be 10 weeks separating the Snow White films. Whether that’s enough to keep interest going in both titles remains to be seen.

Not that the films will necessarily appeal to the same audience. Snow White and the Huntsman, staring Kristen Stewart, Charlize Theron and Chris Hemsworth, isn’t a classic retelling of the fairy tale. In Huntsman, Snow White is trained to be a fierce warrior in order to overcome the evil queen.

Lobbing its own shot at Universal, Relativity also announced Tuesday that it will open Safe Haven, based on the Nicholas Sparks novel, on June 1, 2012 — the same date as Huntsman. Both films will compete for women.

And Relativity’s Hunter Killer, from director Phillip Noyce, will roll out in theaters on Dec. 21, 2012, the same weekend that Universal’s untitled Judd Apatow movie debuts.

Which Snow White Is Which? Blood 'n' Guts vs. Bloody Fun!

With so many fairy tales to choose from, it's pretty funny (or just competitive biz as usual) that two flicks centered on Snow White and her escapades are going to hit the big screen around the same time: Universal's Snow White and the Huntsman and Relativity Media's The Brothers Grimm: Snow White.

And while the battle is continuing to look more and more Grimm—what with Universal bumping the date for its Kristen Stewart version to a few weeks before Relativity's reboot—we can't help but get a bit confused on which Snow White is which.

The Story: Comedy vs. Kick Ass!
Relativity's Snow White—which is supposedly about Snow and her dwarfy pals violently reclaiming the kingdom—is described as a "spirited adventure comedy" (tho sources close to the picture tell us the laughs are kinda few and far between), while Universal's Huntsman takes a much more serious, kickass approach to the series. If you're looking for serious fight sequences and the chance of some steamy scenes between Hemsworth and Stewart, your best bet is the latter.

Snow White: Delightful vs. Deadly!
Relativity Media picked Lily Collins to play its fair-skinned star—another notch on the up-and-comer's list of impressive résumé credits. Lil has the perfect cute-as-a-button puss to play the sweet little Snow the studio wants. Kristen Stewart, meanwhile, will lead Universal's picture, playing Snow White the warrior as she seeks violent revenge on the Evil Queen.

The Queen: Bitchtastic vs. Bloodthirsty!
Speaking of the queen, she's pretty bad in both installments. But it's only in Universal's pick that she's bloodthirsty. When deemed not the fairest of them all, Charlize Theron will order that K.Stew's Snow be taken into the woods and murdered. Yikes! On the other hand, Julia Roberts will make a deliciously bitchy splash as the queen in Relativity's flick with Nathan Lane at her side. Sounds hilar to us!

The Prince: Hunky vs. Who Cares?
Relativity found its drool-worthy prince in the Social Network's Armie Hammer, and we say perfect! We still have a crush on Armie from his days fighting Facebook and would let him sweep us off our feet any day. The pairing with Lily is a bit creepy, but we're willing to hold our judgment until we see the flick. On the other hand, Universal seems to be giving the leading man status to Chris Hemsworth as the Huntsman, while (also handsome) newcomer Sam Claflin plays the Prince.

The Movie: Which Will Come Out on Top?!
While both films focus on White, they couldn't be more different when it comes down to it. And that's totally cool with us. We're looking forward to seeing K.Stew get her action star on just as much as we are dying to see Julia at her bitchy best. There's enough room for two fairy-tale flicks, right?

WonderCon: Lily Collins Talks ‘Priest’ And ‘Snow White’

I really lucked out with this one. I asked for a 1:1 with Lily Collins for Priest just because I thought the pretty girl from the action movie would be cool. The day before the interview, she gets the part of Snow White in Tarsem Singh’s next movie.

Lucy (Collins) is the target of Priest’s (Paul Bettany) quest in the movie. She’s kidnapped and he goes back on duty to find her. In the footage screened for WonderCon, she hangs from a speeding train.

Q: What an exciting day you must’ve had yesterday, seeing the Priest footage and landing the Snow White role.

Lily Collins: Yeah, first time in 3D, saw it yesterday, that was shocking. Put those glasses on and I thought that was incredible. I didn’t know what the 3D was going to turn into and it was just so amazing and exciting. Yes, and then found out that I was cast as Snow White so it’s quite the big day.

Q: And it was April 1st, but it’s all true, right?

LC: I know, actually that’s the first thing I said when my team called me and told me. I said, “If this is an April Fools joke, I don’t know what I’ll start to do.” Because I was so excited. I had literally read the day before and met the director the day before and then was cast yesterday, so it was less than 24 hours.

Q: What cool stuff do you get to do in Priest?

LC: I have knife fights, I set people on fire, I get thrown off a train and I’m flying through the air, grabbing onto Paul, being whipped by the air. I’m seduced, locked in a cage, starved. I’m kidnapped. I was dirty the entire time and it was really fun.

Q: That’s a lot. Is this a six hour movie?

LC: No, I know, exactly. The cool thing about it is it cuts so quickly and it’s so fast paced, you have a second to breathe but it’s constant action. Yet the story is told in a way that you still fully understand and you can immerse yourself in it. Scott’s vision with the visual effects of it all and creating this alternate post-apocalyptic world is so fantastic that when you see it in 3D you really do feel like you’re there and part of the story.

Q: Who seduces you? Is that vampire Stockholm syndrome?

LC: Karl Urban plays a human vampire which is a new breed of vampire because the other ones are more horrific creatures that were all CG and created by Scott. He wants to turn me and in order to do so it’s kind of that seducing character, tries to seduce me through food and tries to lure me to the other side.

Q: The train sequence looks amazing. How long were you working on that?

LC: I’m on the train pretty much the entire film. When I’m kidnapped I’m put onto the train.

Q: I guess when the motorcycles start chasing the train is what we saw.

LC: Oh, that, yes. That took weeks because the exterior shots and the interior shots were completely different places. The motorcycle training, obviously they had tons of stunts, tons of training, days where you had a certain amount of light time and then all of a sudden the sun was going down so you had to push to the next day, but it was a crazy process and it was all amazing. Crazy journey.

Q: What is the secret to a good movie scream?

LC: I don’t know. They said, “Scream” and that’s what came out. It was my first day of filming. They put me down in this wet dungeon and they just said, “All right, now you’re reacting to stuff going on upstairs.” I just was listening to sounds and they said, “And scream.” That’s what came out. The next day my voice was gone but I only had to do it twice.

Q: How do you plan to make Snow White a modern girl?

LC: I think with Tarsem his vision is so incredible and his imagery from The Fall and then Immortalscoming out. We’re not modernizing it. It’s still going to be period but I think it’s more of the action comedy, maybe like The Princess Bride, Enchanted, trying to relate to all generations while maintaining the core values of the story, making people laugh at the same time. It’s not so much making it edgy or making it anything different because I think the fairy tale speaks for itself. It’s just taking the Tarsem twist on it.

Q: I meant modern girl in spirit, for today’s audiences.

LC: Oh, right. I think bringing her spirit and her spunk to life, she changes in this story. She’s very feminine but she also then goes to be with the dwarves and then she has to come back and fight, so she’s got kind of two personalities. She’s the girly princess but at the same time, she’s got this kick butt side. I think she shows a lot of different qualities that young girls have today with the confidence and the excitement. It’ll be really fun. It’s all new for me.

Q: There are other Snow Whites being made too, but yours is going to be the best, right?

LC: [Laughs] Kristen Stewart is the other Snow White and I really admire her as an actress. She’s so fun and so sweet and we’re both very different. We’ve both very, very different and I think we’re going to have two totally different takes on it. So it’ll be interesting to see what happens but I’m very excited to be involved with mine with Julia Roberts and Armie Hammer and Tarsem. I’m still completely amazed.

British Invasion: 15 Hot Young Actors From Across the Pond

As of next year, three of America's most famous superheroes will be played by Brits: Superman (Henry Cavill), Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield), and Batman (Christian Bale). No, we're not going to protest out of some misguided jingoism (although we will point out the horror with which our friends across the Atlantic responded to Renee Zellweger playing Bridget Jones once upon a time).

We don't know if it's the popularity of rigorous youth drama programs or what, but the British are invading Hollywood at a rate that rivals the arrival of the Aussies in the late '90s. Looking at the more established young slate of English talent (Keira Knightley, Carey Mulligan, the Harry Potter trifecta, and Robert Pattinson to name a few), we say welcome to the next gen of Bright Young Brits.

Andrew Garfield

After this last awards season, it’s impossible to ignore the "Social Network" star, whose on-screen raging outburst made Justin Timberlake's Sean Parker flinch. He’ll next play Peter Parker in Matthew Vaughn's new "Spider-Man" flick. We're not sure what it is about Brits taking over our favorite Superhero films, but if it means more of Garfield (and Cavill), we're all for it. For more evidence of his serious acting chops, check out his brooding, intense performance in the English made-for-television "Red Riding" trilogy or the riveting indie drama "Boy A."

The petite beauty broke into Hollywood as the high-school-aged daughter of Oscar winner Sandra Bullock in "The Blind Side." But Collins is no Southern belle. The daughter of rocker-turned-composer Phil Collins, she has since scored leading roles in two thrillers, "Priest" with Paul Bettany and "Abduction" with Taylor Lautner, both of which roll out this year. She also snagged the better-than-Bella role of Clary in the "The Mortal Instruments" series, a potential "Twilight"-sized franchise.

Jamie Campbell-Bower

He first played the lovesick young sailor in Tim Burton's Oscar-nominated musical "Sweeney Todd, " then landed supporting roles in two of Hollywood's biggest movie franchises. He's Caius the vampire in the "Twilight" saga and Grindelwald the legendary wizard in the final "Harry Potter" films. Apparently he can't get enough of period costumes: Campbell-Bower makes his prime-time debut next month as a young King Arthur in the sexy new Starz series, "Camelot."

Just Jared Jr's Favorite Couples for Valentines Day

Happy Valentine's Day from JJJ!

It’s one of the most romantic days of the year and JJJ is spotlighting some of our favorite couples on TV, in movies and real-life.
Did you know that Valentine’s Day isn’t just a candy-company holiday? The origins of the holiday date back to 500 AD. We’re sure that Justin Russo and Juliet Van Heusen (Wizards of Waverly Place) could tell you all about it considering Juliet is almost that old.
While we miss Justin and Juliet lots, we are loving some other couples on TV right now. While we wait for Hanna Marin and Lucas Gottesman (Pretty Little Liars) to realize that they’re made for each other, we’ll rejoice that Cody Martin and Bailey Pickett (The Suite Life on Deck) are finally back together and enjoy every minute we still have Jo Taylor and Kendall Knight (Big Time Rush).
And on the big screen? We’re so looking forward to watch Nathan protect Karen (Abduction) while they’re on the run; gasp when Kyle Kingsbury gives Lindy Owens (Beastly) not only a rose garden but his heart too; and fall in love with Nova Prescott and Jesse Richter (Prom).

Lily Collins Talks Taylor Lautner's 'Abduction' Abs, 'Twilight' Fans

'It's about his acting skills in this one,' she says, downplaying the actor's shirtlessness in the thriller.

When it comes to his upcoming thriller, "Abduction," Taylor Lautner has spoken enthusiastically about the intense training he endured — including boxing and motorcycle riding — and his excitement for what he terms the film's "amazing" story.

All good stuff, no doubt, but what many of you really want to know about his first major role outside the "Twilight" franchise is one thing: Just how much shirt-free, ab-proud time is the 18-year-old going to have onscreen?

Hate to dash dreams, but — despite those tantalizing set pics that popped up on the Web last summer — the answer is: not much at all.

"It's not about that!" co-star Lily Collins laughed in a recent interview. "It's about his acting skills in this one. I feel everyone is going to be surprised to see how much he's grown. This movie is not about that aspect of him. It's very, very, very minimal. He brings so much more than that. I feel people are going to be blown away."

Collins — who MTV News tapped as one of our 11 for '11 and who, like Lautner, is about take on a wildly popular book franchise as the star of the "Mortal Instruments" series — told us she learned a ton from watching how the "Twilight" star interacted with his fans during the "Abduction" shoot.

"I would watch the way he deals with his fans. It's incredible," she told us. "We'd be shooting at nights where we finish at 7 in the morning, and one night, we had 600 fans in the middle of nowhere in Pittsburgh waiting outside, and it was probably almost 5 in the morning, and he went out and signed every single autograph. He was always there to be with his fans and to make sure they knew he appreciated them.

"I watched that and I took note that it's always important to give back and to make sure the people that support you know that you support them," Collins added. "He's so humble in dealing with everyone that looks up to him."
