Ashley Greene Sounds Off on Domestic Violence and Abusive Relationships

The Twilight star and face of Mark talks about her involvement with LoveisRespect.org, a new resource from the National Dating Abuse Helpline.

Tell us a little bit about the event you're hosting.
The event is for Loveisrespect.org and it's for their "Louder Than Words" launch, and I'm here because I'm the ambassador for Mark. The campaign is dedicated to stopping abuse and domestic violence. They recently created youth advisory board with the National Dating Abuse Helpline.

Who are you most excited to see at the party tonight?
I got to meet a couple of the girls who are the board. They're all very smart girls who are very dedicated. I admire what they're doing, especially at young age; it's incredible and really inspiring.

How did the girls get involved?
Loveisrespect.org did a search, working with the National Dating Abuse Helpline. They had to write essays, explaining how domestic violence has affected them. Twenty-four girls were selected and now they're all out there making a difference, making sure people my age and younger are aware of dating abuse.

The most impressive part is that they're getting down to the bottom of the issue, explaining that it doesn't have to physical. It can start with sending erratic text messages and being jealous—things that escalate into something. Making people aware is the most the important thing. We have to stop the cycle while we're young, because once you've been involved in an abusive relations, it's a lot harder to break that pattern.

How did you get involved?
Mark approached me to be their ambassador, and though I like the products and think they're great, I wasn't interested in signing on to a brand just because it's a campaign. But then I saw this m.powerment aspect. I asked them, "What's your cause, what to you do?" Then they gave me the raw rundown of the statistics. Before I actually knew what the statistics were, I knew domestic violence was out there. But there are a lot of things that people just don't know, and I really believe that people need to know this. It hit home with me because it's my age range and my fans are that demographic. You probably know something who's been abused, or you've been abused, or it's affected you in some way.

What have you learned since getting involved?
I learned that 16 to 24 is the highest percentage of women who are abused. People know that abuse is out there but they don't realize it's such a epidemic.

Tell us a little bit about m.powerment.
It's Mark's philanthropic initiative dedicated to stopping domestic abuse. We raise money to give grants each year to give to organizations who have shelters and help abused women. They put people in the right place and right direction.

How is m.powerment making a difference?
Mark's m.powerment campaign donated $100,000 to start this youth advisory board. Loveisrespect.org is for all ages, but the youth advisory board is zoning in on the age demographic that's highly impacted. They make it easier for adults and teenagers to interact and connect, as far as how we speak to them with through social media.

What are the basics of healthy dating?
One of the big things is the quality of your relationships. You want someone who doesn't need power, someone who lets you discuss your thoughts and views and lets you be the individual that you are. If someone wants so be in a relationship with you, they shouldn't want to control you or change anything about you. Constantly texting you, wanting to control who you're friends with, pushing you to different limits—anyone who puts you in positions you don't want to be in. With mental abuse, it doesn't have to be screaming. Little things lead to larger problems.

What can girls do to educate themselves and get involved?
Loveisrespect.org is a great outlet, and there's tons of information out there. Girls can help other people, and they can educate themselves. They should also visit meetmark.com to learn more about the m.powerment campaign.

Ashley No Longer Face of Donate My Dress

Victoria Justice: DonateMyDress 2012 Spokeswoman!

Victoria Justice is taking over the reigns from Ashley Greene as the spokesperson for the 2012 Donate My Dress campaign.
“I’m really excited to be a part of the Donate My Dress organization,” the 18-year-old actress shared in a statement. “Prom can be really expensive; this program is an easy way for girls everywhere to get involved and help other girls in need.”
Vic is also donating a dress of her own — the Jil Stuart mini she wore to the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards.
Designed to help less fortunate teens get special occasion dresses for their proms, Sweet 16 parties and Quinceañeras, the campaign encourages girls to donate gently used dresses to their local chapters.
In conjunction with the dress drive, Donate My Dress is partnering with Always for its annual Purple Dress Awards, which recognize the most outstanding local chapters in the DonateMyDress.org network.
Always will donate $1 for every girl who visits its Facebook page and shares her favorite prom dress style — up to $25,000 — and ultimately give $5,000 to five deserving Donate My Dress chapters to use for dry cleaning, mending, dress drives and more.

Robert Pattinson: How He Helped Build a School for Teen Girls in Cambodia

Robert Pattinson has given young girls—and everyone else, for that matter—another reason to love him even more.
Here's how it came about: About a year ago, Pattinson donated a meet and greet with fans on the set of Breaking Dawn for a charity auction.
Not only did a Chicago family win the coveted prize with a bid of $80,000, but...
The money raised by Pattz for the Go Campaign is being used 100 percent to build a permanent home for PAGE (Program Advancing Girls Education), an organization helping to educate teen girls in Cambodia.
PAGE currently houses 12 girls in a rented facility. Sadly, they've had to move several times over the last three years because of health and safety concerns.
The new home will accommodate 20 girls. Run by Cambodian monks in Siem Reap, Cambodia, PAGE has also bought a piece of land large enough for its own vegetable garden to help feed the students.
And now we're happy to report that Pattinson is helping the Go Campaign again! He's donated a private screening of Breaking Dawn for 20 people that will take place in Los Angeles on Nov. 17, the night before the movie opens in theaters.
PHOTOS: Hollywood's Top Monsters!
Guests will also take home a Twilight gift bag that includes signed posters, DVDs and a replica of Bella's wedding ring, among many other goodies.
Like last year, Pattinson's package is part of the auction that coincides with the Go Campaign's Go Go Gala. Hosted by Ewan McGregor, the fourth annual event takes place Nov. 10 at the London Hotel in Los Angeles.
The set visit was the highest bid ever for a Go Campaign auction. Will R.Pattz shatter his own record this time around?
We have a feeling he will.

E!

The actor will see you now

‘Twilight’ star raises cash for cancer research

For fans of the “Twilight” series, it’s one of life’s great mysteries: Why is there no Team Carlisle?
Edward and Jacob (or Jacob and Edward, if that’s how you prefer it) seem to attract all the screaming, red-faced, teary-eyed fans (and their screaming, red-faced, teary-eyed moms) who pledge their love and allegiance for all eternity.
Amid that chaos, it’s easy to forget that Dr. Carlisle Cullen – the blond patriarch of the Cullen clan and dreamy-eyed proponent of vegetarian vampirism – is just as scream-worthy. And it doesn’t hurt that, on the big screen, Carlisle is played by Peter Facinelli, an actor of the tall, dark and handsome variety who can easily hold his own alongside Robert Pattinson’s jaw line and Taylor Lautner’s biceps.
“Whenever I talk with fans who know me as Carlisle, it is a really humbling experience,” Facinelli says. “I’ve had fans come up to me and they just don’t speak, which always surprises me. I want to tell them, ‘Don’t be shy. I’m just like you. I’m a fan of these books – and this character – just as much as you are.’ ”
Facinelli is scheduled to make an appearance Saturday at Jefferson Pointe as part of a fundraiser for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (www.alexslemonade.org), which raises money for childhood cancer research via home lemonade stands. It’s named for the originator of the idea, Alex Scott, who died from cancer at 8 years old.
Facinelli, who also stars on the Showtime series “Nurse Jackie,” has worked with the organization for the past year, squeezing in autograph fundraisers whenever his schedule allows, he says.
“I want to spread awareness,” Facinelli says. “When I learned about the organization, it really moved me that Alex’s parents were able to rise above their grief and help other people. So with these autograph signings – the fans seem to have a good time, the organization benefits and everyone wins.”
Much of the success of Facinelli’s autograph tours is because of fans of the “Twilight” saga, he says, which begins to wind down this fall with the release of the first part of “Breaking Dawn,” the final installment of the series.
After so many years working with the same group of actors, Facinelli says the end is bittersweet.
“For me, I can’t believe it’s gone so quickly,” he says. “It feels like yesterday we were doing the first one. I love the cast. They’ve become family to me, so it saddens me that I won’t be on set with all of them anymore. We have a great rapport with each other. But, after making five films, it’s also time to move on.”
As the father of three daughters with wife Jennie Garth – all of them avid “Twilight” followers – Facinelli counts himself as a “major fan” of both the books and the movies and is looking forward to seeing the two-part film adaptation of “Breaking Dawn.” He’s especially interested in how director Bill Condon constructs the honeymoon scene between Bella and Edward and the final battle between the Cullens and The Volturi.
“I’m one of those fans waiting to see exactly how they handle everything,” he says. “I haven’t seen the movies and I wasn’t there for all of the scenes, so I’m really excited. I get to experience it just like all of the other fans do. Because, really, that’s what I am.”

Charlie Bewley Goes Cross-Country Tour for Into the Heart of America: A Soldier's Story

imagebam.com imagebam.com imagebam.com
Matt Dallas holds up an American flag in this pic recently taken in Connecticut while traveling across the country for the upcomingdocumentaryInto the Heart of America: A Soldier’s Story.
The 28-year-old actor, along with actor-writer-director Steven Grayhmand Twilight’s Charlie Bewley, chronicled the journey - interviewing veterans who’ve returned from Iraq and Afghanistan - as they researched their roles for the filmThunder Road.
“We cannot ignore that we are living in a time of war. We have challenged ourselves to capture the most honest and accurate depiction of a soldier’s journey without forgetting those who are indirectly affected by the full spectrum of this war,” Matt tellsJustJared.com.
Thunder Road will explore the difficulties many U.S. soldiers face when they return to civilian life from active duty in Afghanistan.

Charlie Bewley talks about his cross-country tour for 'Thunder Road'

As you may or may not know, Charlie Bewley ("Demetri" in the Twilight series) has been trekking across America along with his Thunder Road co-stars Matt Dallas and Steven Grayhm to speak with Afghanistan veterans about their experiences in preparation for their film.
Bewley has been actively tweeting about the journey, which has been called "Into the Heart of America: A Soldier's Story" and now The Hollywood Reporter has a quote from Charlie Bewley in which he reflects on some of what they've learned so far.
"It is difficult to sustain emotional detachment, from the exhilaration of deployment to the tragedy of loss and the eventual homecoming. You walk into a room with preconceived notions of what war is like and it’s just different when you’re sitting there hearing it first hand."
