WME Signs Dakota & Elle Fanning

 

Dakota and Elle Fanning have signed with WME. The teenage actresses made the agency rounds recently after leaving Cindy Osbrink, whose Osbrink Talent Agency specializes in pint-sized talent and who agented the girls since they were children. It was time to move, as Dakota is turning 18 and Elle turning 14. The Fannings continue to be repped by mangers JJ Harris and Brittany Kahan at One Talent Management and lawyer is Steve Warren.

Elle’s big sister, Dakota, has outed her as a serious Robert Pattinson fan, so I had to ask her about maybe one day working with the Twilight star. “I would love that!” said Elle. “My sister said he was so nice, and I got to meet him at the premiere. That would be fun!” she said with a smile. Let’s make it happen, Hollywood!

Announcing the 2012 Critics' Choice Nominations

Award season is officially around the corner, which means the nominations are coming in droves now. The Critics' Choice nominees feature some of the same contenders we've been expecting, like The Descendants and The Artist, but also has a few surprises. Namely,Martin Scorsese's Hugo has emerged as a force to be reckoned with, leading the pack with 11 nods.

Brad Pitt's got not one but two movies up for best picture, with Moneyball and The Tree of Life, not to mention a best actor nod for himself. The Help also cleaned up with eight nominations. On a personal note, we're excited to see some of our favorite 2012 comedies getting some recognition, like The Muppets, Horrible Bosses, and of course, Bridesmaids.

Know your Fanning: Dakota or Elle?

Elle Fanning got her start in the movie business playing younger versions of her sister, Dakota, in films like I Am Sam and Taken, so it’s at least understandable that some people mistake one for the other. Like Kyle Chandler, for instance, who mistakenly toldMen’s Journal in a cover story your wife will treasure that his co-star in Super 8 is Dakota Fanning. Though Dakota (far left) is four years older than Elle (near left), they’re both tall and blond, and since movies live forever, it can be baffling to tell one from the other on screen unless you’ve already read the credits.

For the record, Elle is the Fanning in Super 8, as well as the scene-stealer in last year’sSomewhere, Sofia Coppola’s story of a disillusioned Hollywood actor (Stephen Dorff) who re-examines his life after a visit from his daughter. Dakota is the recent high school graduate who dazzled opposite Sean Penn (I Am Sam), Denzel Washington (Man on Fire), and Tom Cruise (War of the Worlds), and now has a role in the Twilight films.

As brilliant as Elle’s performance is in Super 8, I fear it’s only going to warp people’s ability to differentiate the two sisters. Though she’s only 13 years old, her character has had to grow up fast in a broken home. She’s not just Dakota’s little sister anymore.

The Hunger Games: How We'd Complete the Cast

The Hunger Games movie adaptation continues to add cast members. Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Chris Hemsworth lead the group as Katniss, Peeta, and Gale, respectively, whileThresh and Rue were just added to The Hunger Games cast as well. Before more actors sign on to the film, I thought I'd try my hand at casting — see who I'd pick for the rest of the supporting characters, like Haymitch, Cinna, and Prim!

Ashley Greene as "Foxface"

Though we never learn the district five female's name, Katniss refers to her clever competitor as "Foxface" because of her features. Greene has kind of a foxy face and the lithe build the character is supposed to have. She just needs a bottle of red hair dye, and she's good to go.

Elle Fanning as Prim

Young Fanning is a good fit for Primrose, Katniss's sweet and delicate little sister. The actress even bears a slight resemblance to Jennifer Lawrence.

The Twilight Saga. Enough said. But, on top of the actress' leading role in the mega hit vampire flicks (Part One of the final installment Breaking Dawn will hit theaters this November), Stewart recently nabbed the title part in Universal's Snow White and the Huntsman. She'll also be seen opposite Garrett Hedlund and Sam Riley as Marylou later this year in the screen adaptation of Jack Kerouac's On the Road.
