Buzz's Picks For Fall Movies: Part One
Everyone's buzzing about Fall TV, but don't forget the Fall movies that will be hitting big screens over the next few months! Here is your sneak peek at the comedies, dramas, and award season contenders on my list of ones-to-watch. Then stay tuned for part two with even more films to look forward to!
Easy A
Funny girl Emma Stone brings us this 2.0 take on the classic story of The Scarlet Letter. Stone plays Olive, an unpopular high school girl who helps a fellow tortured student by pretending to have sex with him at a party. Her antics get her noticed for once, but not in a good way. The film looks whip-smart, sort of like the next Mean Girls (or so I hope!). Check it out on Sept. 17.
Hereafter
Director Clint Eastwood teams up once again with Matt Damon for a film that's very different from their last collaboration, Invictus. Hereafter is a supernatural thriller that explores death from three different characters: a journalist who nearly dies in the 2004 tsunami, a boy who loses his twin, and a psychic (Damon) who can talk to the deceased. Though the subject matter sounds bleak, if it's Eastwood at the helm, it's sure to bring the award season buzz. The release date is Oct. 22.
Welcome to the Rileys
In Welcome to the Rileys Kristen Stewart stars as Mallory, a young runaway who gets taken in by an older man (James Gandolfini) still grieving over the loss of his daughter; Melissa Leo rounds out the cast as Gandolfini's wife. All three actors' performances show promise, especially Stewart, who has dabbled in gritty (i.e., The Runaways) but perhaps with nothing quitethis dramatic. Give it a look on Oct. 29.
