Hawaii: A Voice For Sovereignty, releases soundtrack for award-winning film at Borders Hollywood on October 15th, 2010, 6:00pm – 9:00pm. It is an unique Journey Into the Hawaiian Culture, during the four year filming throughout the Hawaiian Islands.
Spokesperson Kiowa Gordon from Twilight Saga: Eclipse will be there to support the indigenous people and their importance in all cultures.
The film is in the voice of Native Hawaiian people and is an epic documentary, about the Hawaiian Culture, spirituality, and the Hawaiian’s close connection to the land. At the forefront of the film are the complicated social, economic, and ecological issues that have developed in Hawaii since the overthrow of the Kingdom of Hawaii’s Queen Liliuokalani by the U.S. in 1893. The film is directed by photojournalist, Catherine Bauknight.
The journey into the culture is gifted to the film, and the soundtrack CD through music and sacred chants. At times there were no words for what they wanted to share with the world through the film, but there was always, music and chants, that could express the depths of their aloha, their love for the ocean, the mountains, the flowing streams, their unconditional love for each other, and their connection to the land and their ancestors. Many accomplished musicians and artists generously contributed to this production including: Charles Ka'upu, Cyril Pahinui, George Kahumoku, Ke`eaumoku Kapu Lono, Richard Ho'opi'I, Skippy Ioane, and Willie K.
The culture of the Hawaiian people are presented in the voice of grassroots indigenous people and scholars including: Dr. Haunani-Kay Trask, Professor KaleikoaKa’eo, Hawai`i State Senator Kalani English, Bumpy Kanahele, Clifford Nae’ole,Ramsay Taum, Kahu Hanalei Colleado, Guy Aina, Ke’eaumoku Kapu, and author Gregg Braden. The goal of the documentary is to raise awareness of these issues that threaten the Hawaiian’s ancient, once-environmentally-sustainable culture .
Kiowa Gordon is a talented American actor and Hollywood’s rising star. He was first introduced to the public as Embry Call, member of the wolf pack in The Twilight Saga: New Moon, and Eclipse.
Kiowa also landed one of the lead roles in the upcoming thriller Into The Darkness, to be released in 2011.
