NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Suspense-filled dramas, psychological thrillers, romantic triangles and stories based on real-life events take center stage Friday as independent filmmakers convene for the 21st annual New Orleans Film Festival.
The 7-day festival launches with British film director Jake Scott's drama, "Welcome to the Rileys," starring James Gandolfini, Kristen Stewart and Melissa Leo. The movie was produced in New Orleans.
"Opening the festival is so amazing, so exciting," said Scott.
Scott, whose father is director Ridley Scott, said being chosen for the coveted opening night spot is also affirmation of his goal to represent the city well. "It's incredibly flattering and a real honor, especially having made the film there (in New Orleans)."
