MOVIES
Popcorn and ‘Elephants'
This weekend, step right up to the historic Al Ringling Theatre in Baraboo to see the new movie "Water For Elephants," based on the best-selling novel by Sara Gruen. The film plays in the historic theatre at 7 p.m. Friday, May 20, at 136 4th Ave. Tickets for the special event are $15 and include admission to a 5 p.m. reception a short distance away at Circus World Museum, 550 Water St., where Gruen researched her book.
The 5 p.m. reception celebrates the opening of a new exhibit that includes museum items - the Benzini Brothers wagons, among them - used in the film, which stars Reese Witherspoon and Robert Pattinson.
At the historic theatre, Circus World Museum ringmaster David SaLoutos will play circus music on the Mighty Barton Theatre organ. At 7 p.m., museum executive director Steve Freese will talk about the making of "Water for Elephants" before the film is shown. Ticket holders also will receive a small soda, popcorn and a souvenir program.
The film can be seen at 7 p.m. nightly through Thursday, May 26, at the Al Ringling Theatre. Regular ticket prices are $7.50 for adults; $5.50 for students & seniors. For more information, call 356-8864 or go online to alringling.com.
